I'd probably liken it traffic controls, like lanes w/lines, stop-lights, stop-signs and other formalized rules of driving. Yeah, it might suck that you can get a ticket for treating a red-light like a stop-sign at 6am in the middl

Playing Nintendo Switch online doesn't work if you're double NAT'd unless you go through some router hoops. It seems small, but it's quite aggravating if you're not tech oriented like the majority of the people on t

I believe I could sum up the original comment as "perfect is the enemy of good, and enjoyment greatly contributes to something sticking". I do think a lot of people (myself included) get hung up on doing it the Right Way (TM) that

It looks like something like that is indeed possible. See a post on the rust internals forum where that's setup with a type alias. It was called `Fallible` in that post, but it's common in the Rust ecosystem to override the defaul

It's not really open source standardization though. Google is in charge, make no mistake. Yes people can take it and tweak it, but the main feature changes are dictated by Google.

There have been various variable arity generic discussions on the internals forum (internals.rust-lang.org), but I think it's a significantly lower priority issue than the other stuff in flight. I think we might get it in a few years.

This is understandable. Rust really uses restrict semantics in anger compared to any other language I know of. Have you seen restrict used in a c codebase? The LLVM support for restrict just doesn't get exercised much outside of Rust.

IIUC, transmutes in rust completely destroy lifetimes. Unsafe in rust gives you a few more things you can do, it doesn't do stuff like disable the borrow checker. But transmute basically kills lifetime checking.

Many crates do this type of thing. I don't know how hard it would be to isolate this type of thing into its own crate.
