That would be wonderful. If I could get OpenGL support for current generation NVIDIA or AMD hardware, ideally with OpenCL or Vulkan too (CUDA is probably too much to ask for), I would even be able to use Haiku for my daily work.

It was built with threading in mind throughout, which was unusual for the time. Remember, it took until C++11 until threads became part of the language.

This is a very faithful reimplementation if BeOS, which means it shares one unfortunate limitation with it: The lack of drivers. Already back in '99, not leveraging 3D hardware was a problem for adoption. These days even more so, as no

SSS has been done with point clouds for a long time. Only recently have films switched to ray tracing for SSS. Games these days implement SSS in screen space using rasterisation, no rays tracing either.

It's much simpler than that: Both rasterisation and ray tracing are methods to solve visibility. The main difference is that one answers the question "given a primitive, what pixels does it overlap?", the other "given a

No, I can't unfortunately. Too many apps rely on web backends that have been upgraded and are incompatible with the versions that run on iPad 1. For example, the built-in YouTube application on iPad 1 is completely non-functional. Also

If longevity is what they want, they should release private keys and hardware specs for hardware that they drop from their own OS updates. That way, we could continue using old iPads and iPhones, albeit with custom Android builds.

AO and soft shadows are orthogonal and are often used simultaneously. A few direct light sources (point lights, spots, infinite) with soft shadows and additionally an environment light (dome or half dome) with AO.

Who mentioned failure? I'm merely explaining why and how Nvidia can show 5 rays/pixel @ 25pfs while we're at the same time budgeting several hours per frame for state of the art production rendering. Sure, more and better har

It is never mentioned explicitly, but my hunch would be that primary visibility is still done using rasterisation and that ray tracing is only used for reflections, shadows and ambient occlusion. This is how most film rendering was done ten

Since there's some confusion in a few threads, here a little bit of explanation. I spent the last ~18 months speeding up a production renderer for an upcoming animated feature. 29 hours for a frame is high but not unusual. Referred to

What good is a refurbished but old iPhone these days when there is no more software for it? Even when you're lucky enough to have backup copies of older software versions, the web APIs most rely on have been discontinued.

I have to say, I can observe some mixed standards in this regard: "Deer eat saplings" - "Kill the deer!" "Wolves eat livestock" - "Don't shoot, get a fence."
