I actually totally missed that one-liner at the top, which unless you follow this guy, would make it seem like he was promoting a pro-English view. So any of my comments regarding English I withdraw. I still think his view about Chinese cha

This guy is a linguist? And his best argument is that characters take long to write using the example of a word whose only real use is the answer to the trivia question, "what is the Chinese character containing the most strokes?"

`this` in javascript is tied to whatever object is calling it. For `User.getCount`, the object is User, but when you declare `func = User.getCount`, and then call `func()`, you are now calling from whatever object `func` belongs to (in this

I would say if one read's Mike's essay and assumed a few things, his opinion would be that it's a moot point. There are already people who think bitcoin is a liquid asset where trading x bitcoins can buy something of value. T

Yep, I'm surprised jQuery isn't older, as I do recall using dojo and prototype before 2006. jQuery was a huge timesaver, as was dojo, mootools, prototype, etc and not having at least one of these libraries would have sucked. And a

jQuery was popular because of the cross-browser functionality it offered, since having to read about all the different quirks was a huge time sink. Also being able to use a selector $() to grab DOM nodes was _huge_. So easy and convenient.

I mean sure if you're stuck in 2007 it's fine. The average screen resolution in 2007 was 1024x768. Most of us now have ~1080p-ish type screens or on mobile where it's even higher. We also now have the bandwidth to watch 720p&

    If we're talking pro-gamers, they probably don't want a 34 21:9 cinema display either. While I haven't tried it, I'm guessing g-sync @ 100hz makes having a insane refresh rate unnecessary. But at $300-400, I'm guess
