For home electricity? Maybe during the peak of '22, certainly not now: I pay around 0.25€/kWh on average per month via Tibber in Germany. Most new contracts are closer to 0.28€/kWh according to the Zeit Energymonitor at the m

That's been put down by the EU parliament. But yes, the EU is definitely not a single entity with a single position on things.

Needs to be on top. All people that claim that this means companies will leave Germany forget that the whole OECD including the USA agreed to this. That‘s the global part in the title.

Sorry, but that depends on region and company size. I know plenty of people that work as senior engineers or leads that earn rather 90 - 110k, even at smaller companies.

I do like the Wiesn (and just came back from there) and live in Haidhausen which does not get so badly affected by the drunkards, but the whole hotel, airbnb and office space crap is getting too much. That is not sustainable.

One problem with this is that research on the continent is often done by research organisations that aren't covered by these assessments. Max Planck and Leibniz in Germany, CNRS, Institut Pasteur in France, EMBL, EBI, ESO etc. as Europ

The renders look like any Italian, French or Spanish small town. The concept as well. Funny enough, there is a similar city in John Brunner‘s Sheep looking up, I believe. Established in the Bay Area as a utopian place after California becam

Heat pumps can create 3 - 5kWh of heat from 1kWh of electrical energy.

The origin of the Indo-Europeans is on both the Anatolian plains and the area north of the Caucasus. Nearly all of us (with the likely exception of the Basques) are quite recent (~8000 years ago) immigrants from those areas.

Isn't the input electrical energy and the output of burning the propane heat? If you convert the heat back to electrical energy, you get much less than you input into the reaction.

I run a hybrid team while working remotely. The only thing that is considerably more difficult remotely is getting a feeling for how the team members feel. Are they doing okay? Are they bored/annoyed? But that‘s more of a problem for i

Germany enforced this a couple of years ago: if you can contract with someone electronically, cancelling this needs to be as simple as agreeing to that contract. Annoyingly, a lot of companies try to work around this - I tried to cancel a n

Reddit is relying heavily on the voluntary work of moderators. Without them and power users that indirectly curate the content of subreddits, the site is toast. Reddit is not dying by alienating its user base; it might be if they are alien

A couple of friends and myself got laid off in Germany a short while ago - was really tough finding a new job. Very different compared to a year ago. Same for friends from the US and especially the UK.

I‘m currently on the market and the situation is definitely very different from the same time last year. Companies are hesitant/waiting to see where the economy is heading, a lot if startups ran out of money. It‘s not that easy anymore

Yeah, trad is different, you're right. There are subreddits devoted to displaying the whole trad gear, neatly arranged in dedicated cabinets. I stand corrected, doing mostly sport climbs and boulders.
