That's because of the dataset. Later in the video they show results using another dataset with more vibrant colour, that looks a lot better IMO.

Interesting, I didn't know that about Reich. Another leftfield hitmaker, Bill Drummond of the KLF, came to a similar conclusion, which prompted him to start a series of collaborative live music projects ("the 17" maybe the mo

Well, ideally your spotify artist page should contain the genres you're tagged with, along with some info of how that came to be, and even a way to request a change to those. But they don't want people to game the system, and also

Nice, those are all glaring omissions from the chart. Although if you trace them back, weren't most of them initiated in the early 2010's?

Of course any style of music can get old and repetitive. But electronic music in particular has been very tied to the technological development of electronic instruments, from the moog modular and forward. A style like jungle/dnb was s

For various reasons they are secretive about this, but the genre system is inherited from EchoNest which they acquired in 2014. EchoNest's main idea was to combine audio analysis with natural language processing and web scraping to cat

It's interesting that the newest genre on there is trap from 2010. I'm trying to think of newer styles, the only one I can come up with is the so-called "hyperpop" by PC Music, Sophie and 100 gecs. But that's been a

Asserts are great, but when they fail, you still need to figure out why it happened. Nice environments allow you to debug the state at the point of assertion, python certainly doesn't make that convenient.

Right?? I find it really sad that python being the go-to "beginner/mess-around" language has such poor debugging in most environments. I've tried VSCode, Atom, Juno, Spyder, Jupyter(lab) and Thonny. All of them were eith

The current leader uses neural networks (LSTMs I believe) so that's obviously a good strategy. But since the size of the decoder gets counted, vanilla tensorflow is probably a bad choice.

Since the buyer is in the NFT business, it seems obvious to me that what they paid for was marketing for themselves and their space. I'm not sure $70M on advertising would be better spent. As the old adage goes, "you can't bu

That's all great stuff, but my idea was rather to explore the latent space inbetween existing fonts, so to speak. V-fonts are nice but very limited. Implicit curves are cool but I don't see how they could represent existing font d

A few years back I had the idea to morph fonts using vector graphic interpolation. Unfortunately it was a bit more complicated than I had anticipated and as usual it was abandoned in favor of newer, shinier projects. But it's still fun

That sounds more like error on the label's/uploader's behalf? Most often that should be the same across platforms, including lossless. I've heard cd skips, vinyl crackle and tape warble on spotify so I know what you mean

In case you missed it, there is an audio quality section in Spotify's Settings menu, and the default is "automatic", which might not be the highest. I'm not sure but I think the "very high" setting is 320kbps o

The source code is a bit bizarre, all the code is repeated for each plugin format, and also full of unrolled loops and inline magic numbers. It makes me wonder if it is actually the result of some compile-to-C++ setup, in which case it'

A classic catch 22 for stuff like this is that it feels wasteful to make presets during development, as one may need to change the file format. On the other hand, it's a good way to force yourself to consider forward compatibility and

The 16% is an estimated industry average. Older contracts don't have any streaming clause so lots of legacy acts are getting screwed. Payouts are $4k-10k per million streams, depending on service and label.

Sure, but if you want fast easy math, it's hard to beat wolfram alpha, where you can just enter something like "solve x^2+5a=y for x" and get the answer right away.

I used to feel the same, but three years after making the switch, I've changed my mind. Matlab code has brevity, but sometimes at the expense of clarity. For example, sum(x,axis=1) is more clear than sum(x,1). Especially when matlab ha
