I think another big component is you can't sell a growth story to Wall St. with a skeleton crew keeping the lights on. You have to have plenty of engineers working on the next big thing .

I just learned from Wikipedia (via HackerNews) that flossing isn't really proven to be that beneficial. Blew my mind. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dental_floss

You just blew my mind. The way dentists freak out about it, you'd think not flossing = guaranteed dentures by the time you're 50.

I'll believe it when Google Maps stops asking me if I want to get off the highway, drive around in a big square, then get back on at the same exit going the same way. No google. I don't care if it's 8 minutes slower. Still no

Is it true that if the universe is flat, then either it has to have an edge (meaning a place where you see galaxies in one direction and nothing in the other), or it has to have an infinite number of galaxies?

Infinite means infinite number of galaxies, right? I watch How the Universe Works religiously. Most of the astrophysicists on that show don't seem to think the universe is infinite.

Yeah this is what I don't understand. In order for this not to be true, space would have to be curved back in on itself like the surface of a balloon. Meaning you could eventually wind up back where you started. But do we know for sure

The analogy that's usually used to help people wrap their heads around this is to think of the 3D universe as the curved 2D surface a balloon. As the balloon expands, every point becomes farther away than every other point. A bug walki

The only way to write something super sensitive like this imo is to have the back-end API that retrieves full credit report be essentially hard-wired to a user access level of "FULLY_VALIDATED". That way no developer can come alon

I'm still struggling to think how this could have happened. I wonder if it has something to do with interaction with annualcreditreport.com? Maybe originally the code had multiple levels of authenticating the user: 1) we know who you a

I'm one of those ADHD people that needs chaos around me to focus. So open offices work great for me. I recently read that this is a thing with some people, but I can't remember the term.

As a senior engineer I completely agree with this. A few days/week remote is fine. But full time remote is a disaster for junior engineers. As you alluded to, it's not just easier access to senior engineers. It's also feeling

Unemployment is at all time lows. What exactly is getting harder for people? I agree that people have more and more sources triggering their fears and prejudices for a buck, which is making them angrier and angrier.
