Both sound like good ideas to me. Community college is generally better than ending your education in high school. And allowing people to graduate without passing their grade level seems like a bad idea. (Unless you're saying they were

Part of that is the upper middle class expectation of owning a house and investing heavily in your child's education. People wait until they are established to have kids, and higher housing prices push that date back.

Why do statements like this from Wozniak get any press? Steve Wozniak was a brilliant innovator early in the PC revolution days, but he hasn't been influential in the industry for many decades now.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or alluding to some other country; just saying I generally find Norwegians much more civil toward people whose views they disagree with.

Although there is a certain culture of political correctness in Norway too, I find that people are far more civil and respectful when encountering people with different political beliefs

Reactionary is a label thrown at people who do not agree with a particular progressive idea and might have different ideas. People don't generally describe themselves as reactionary; instead it's a way for people to denigrate a pa

People's perceived needs grow but that is not the whole story. Many people now are spending almost 50% of their pre-tax income on housing, and most of that is the price of land and goes to landlords. It seems that landlords inevitably

One other effect to consider is the housing prices after the bill. Expensive areas might see an up to 10% drop in property values, which would be bad for those who recently bought but should be easily weathered by others who have seen an 80

Sure there are some hysterical interpretations of the term “socialism” by American politicians, but European welfare states are still decidedly capitalist.

The problem is there are too few socialist societies left because they’ve all failed. My parents lived through one (Poland) which had all the same shortages and pollutions. It’s the same story anywhere socialism has been tried in practice.

To flip the question: Why do people blame capitalism as if it’s not possible to have another system but maintain capitalism? Capitalism doesn’t imply lack of a social safety net or regulations. Even its most classic proponent Adam Smith saw

The point is blaming “capitalism” is throwing out the baby with the bath water. Look at Scandinavia for capitalist societies with a high level of social support and environmental protections. And on the other hand look at true socialist soc

Foreigners who went to grad school are very heavily represented in Silicon Valley. Perhaps going all the way for a PhD is not worth it (debatable, some of my CS PhD friends have done incredibly well) but a Masters is definitely a strong pat

Money is also the root of a lot of strife, both within families and beyond, both for people who have money and those that don't. People should have a right to privacy in their financial affairs.
