Adding on to this: In addition to funding renewals, congress can make specific tweaks at any time to correct anything they dislike with regard to the executive branch. The ruling pretends like this avenue hasn’t existed and been used the en

Hopefully, this is a useful analogy. Congress is like the product manager and creates something like the URS (user requirements specification). The executive branches like the developer team that has to Turn those high-level requirements in

I’ve observed Alzheimer’s take away memories, dignity, and personality from multiple loved ones. I’m unsure whether it’s worse for the affected individual or the loved ones around them. That uncertainty leads me to the same conclusion as yo

Huge fan of Valclav Smil’s work. Note that the significant amount of water required to frack those wells is in the order of 1 million galls or more. Both sides of that is impacting the Edwards Aquifer[1]. Wastewater from wells is finally be

Using Solar Star as another datapoint [1]. 579 MWac x 32.8% capacity factor ≈ 190. I found mention of a bond issuance and someone purchasing the project here [2]. If it’s $1b, then it’s $5.26. If $2b then $10.53. So they’re in the same ball

For a direct answer, this[1] is a good starting point discussing the difficulties with hydrogen (as a medium generally). Hydrogen fuel cell vs combustion isn’t a settled issue. Combustion is more familiar but Carnot Efficiency is going to r

One issue is that Boring Company is digging tunnels that are 12 ft in diameter. They can be used for subways [1] but it's quite narrow by modern standards. --- [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Underground#D

Many EVs already allow for timing / delays for charging when plugged in. Also, charging at work should help balance out solar generation, especially.

There's a lot of things that are great about Houston (affordability, food, etc) but the sprawl is entirely unsustainable by any measure. From 1992-2010, Harris county lost 30% of its wetlands [1]. Not to mention the expense of owning&#

This is purely anecdotal, but I’m amazed at the number of rabbits in / around Boston compared to Houston and Austin, Texas. I’ve seen no more than a few each year in Texas vs several per week around Cambridge, Medford, and Somerville,

They’re likely referencing something like this [1]. The “fracking earthquakes” have stemmed lazy disposal of well wastewater. Wells can take millions of gallons of water; ideally we’d be treating reusing that water. —- [1] https:/

Is that necessarily true? I'm a more optimistic about gradual densification. Across the US, we've seen an increase in offices moving to the periphery of cities [1]. I think we keep reinventing mini-cities in the suburbs and will e

That mindset feels reminiscent of the ever-increasing size of vehicles on the road. You avoid the smaller vehicle for fear of being run off the road (or worse) by an oversized truck and so instead of the subcompact you go with the midsize,

My best guess: * You can invest in covered call funds[1] (like QYLD) and equity-linked notes (like JEPI) as a hedge. This will lose out to index funds in the long-term, but should be better during volatile periods. * The US has I-bonds[2].

Yes. This is anecdotal, but I saw relatives go through foreclosure in the GFC, then get approved for a different (larger) mortgage 5-6 years later.

My understanding is the more natural comparison is between the ~$80k truck with the power walls since it allows the backup power solution vs manually plugging things in via extension cord. Engineering Explained had a good video about it.
