Isn't that more of a logo than a character? I'm not really sure where you draw the line, but it doesn't feel like the bird has been much more than a logo for Twitter.

I don't know that any hard data exists on this because, frankly, it seems kind of silly. Plenty of companies have been incredibly successful without any sort of character as part of their branding (Uber, Twitter, Facebook, Google, Appl

Well, you're only disclosing that AFTER they've decided to filter you out because your salary requirements are too high, so you aren't leaving much, if any, money on the table. Of course, it is possible they are bluffing, but

Yes, lots of times. Pay varies widely in our industry, and it isn't uncommon for a lot of companies to never pay above $X, where X is substantially less than your current salary. Earlier in my career, I was less willing to share salary

I think claiming that the LDS church hasn't been hostile toward LGBT people is pretty disingenuous, much like claiming they haven't been historically explicitly racist towards black people. One doesn't have to much more than

Do you have kids? It is much harder for non/ex-mormon kids in certain places in Utah. Once the initial effort to convert you fails, you frequently get treated very poorly. Lots of mormon parents won't let their kids play with non-

Our governor cheered Trump rolling back anti-pollution laws, because clearly the cause of the nasty inversions we get here is not enough pollution. Meanwhile, our legislature is focused on the real public health crisis in Utah - porn.

Yeah, that was really disappointing. I'd bought into the Betterment kool-aid, and shortly after funding my account, I saw their 'price increase buried in an unrelated product announcement' email. I think these companies (Bett

Interesting story - love reading more of the stories behind some of the games I loved growing up, especially the people behind them. Railroad Tycoon II is still one of my favorite games - the economic simulation side of it was a lot of fun,

Doubtful. I used to work in downtown SLC and would get hit up for cash 5 or 6 times per day. Far more than when I've visited other cities like San Francisco or New York. Even in the suburbs, you've got people sitting at the Target

It was interesting to hear about this, then drive down Rio Grande street or around Pioneer Park and see the massive tent cities and tons of homeless people. Things got really bad downtown the last year or so. I wonder if this is a case of S

In a lot of ways, yes. On the other hand, it seems like a hard problem to solve - how do you get honest feedback in situations like this, where you want to use it to both improve things overall and judge your employees/contractors? May

Is anyone trying to solve this right now? It seems like a really interesting problem that would be really useful to solve. It isn't just online, and it isn't just a technology problem. I recently bought a car and the manufacturer

'gradual hire' sounds great in theory, but it is going to be a pretty unattractive option for a lot of developers. One problem is the lack of certainty - why would I get 'gradually' hired somewhere if I have other option

It definitely feels like getting developer tools bootstrapped/funded is harder than other things sometimes, so congrats. Mostly just wanted to say Scrimba looks pretty cool way to teach/learn coding - nice work!

I haven't tried Cascading, but I've started doing some stuff with Spark and really like it. I feel like it is usually an easier abstraction to work with and it is a lot easier to prototype and experiment with.

Common complaints I've heard about Oozie is that it has a high learning curve, not a great UI, and people hate the fact that it is XML based. This is a pretty decent comparison of Oozie vs Luigi (and Azkaban): http://www.sli
