This sounds so familiar. Running an old OS that gets no updates and patches because of an app that relies on an old php version, also the fear of migration costs and an open ended project that never finishes. This is so wide spread it becom

Wonderful books! They had so much wit and were fun to read. I really enjoyed reading those Perl books. Maybe they were in the spirit of the Perl founder, who was/is a linguist and did not just write technical books, but almost technica

Didn't know about that, although I have been using Emacs for over ten years! Tried `M-x ielm`, `(help) RET`, wow! Will explore it. Been only using the scratch buffer and `C-x C-e` to evaluate sexpressions.

I was an avid user of outliner apps myself (Netmanage's ECCO Pro some twenty years ago, later OmniOutliner on my Mac, and recently Emacs/Org or Roam Research), until I realized that trying to distill my ideas down to the core stru

What no one seem to mention is the mentality that software should cost almost nothing. The other day I researched an alternative to MS Word for Mac and found Nisus Writer Pro. Immediately fell in love with it and did not hesitate a second b

I agree. I like tinkering myself. But then why mention avoiding spending a hundred dollars for a new device, but spending a couple of hours as if those hours are worth less than said amount of money.

Yesterday we read about Apple suspending an account[1]. Today this. These companies can do as they please, and the consumer has no way to defend. This is not acceptable. [1]: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29446529

After spending endless hours in learning the ins and outs of Emacs and starting to learn Elisp, I come to realize that Emacs‘ tinkering-to-doing ratio is too high. I need tools that get out of my way. Emacs can get a hobby or an obsession.
