While there are places that have fewer open taxis to hail, I never tell them where I'm going till I'm in the cab (it's against the rules to turn down a valid fair because of location IIRC). Easy enough to get a ride to most p

While it's true that Erjang translates BEAM code, BEAM itself also does this to yet another more modern internal code (. I'd still consider both BEAM implementations.

Yes, though Erlang has many built-in functions that make it more than just a byte code runtime. See Erjang with the j for an example of a BEAM written on the JVM.

In most systems I've deployed multi-format support it was a matter of a few extra lines of code rather than a doubling of effort. Pretty much all JSON values have obvious (aka. automatic) equivalents in other formats. JSON is truly the

The note on numbers can be specifically problematic since the format does not specifically restrict numbers to be represented by doubles but many clients will assume so, creating some hard to find bugs (it's bitten me many times). The

Content negotiation is a great way to expose multiple serialization formats. No reason it has to be just one of the well known formats. The main tricky part is equivalence of more complex structures in JSON, for example msgpack supports mor

Not exactly. While there are ways to conflate a connection with a thread, these are not always fixed pairs. Generally, it depends on the kind of connection activity and a bit on which operating system. Event based IO is simply pushing infor

For those interested in the replication side Cloudant and CouchDB, there is some start to documenting the protocol on http://www.replication.io . It's exciting to have more things can seamlessly replicate! Another great exam

Many languages have static subsets. For example, many languages won't let you change the meaning of `1+1` while others might allow you to dispatch the addition dynamically.

Related to other comments, there are some mechanisms that ensure that two versions of all code can remain active (if you chose) in Erlang. No extra effort is required. In terms of correctness, I'm not aware of any work that does type c

It's rarely "only crash" as that eventually bubbles up to being equivalent to a reboot. It's simply that you can have subsystems that do that in effective isolation if the effects of a reboot are minimal. On the code sta

You can upgrade state in many cases if the changes are trivial, though depending on the ephemerality of a process you might let it finish or crash and restart instead of doing this.

I was a little confused by the title as it implied a relationship between a process's message box and some module which is not the case. The article does at least demonstrate that processes can transition between two versions of the sa

I've definitely come across VM bugs in the past. Perhaps this could be related to VirtualBox? IE does use a number of fancy mmu features when JITing JS that might put pressure on some of the more complex parts of a VM.

Many of these points are partial truths or at least not as damning as it might seem. IE has had long gaps in the past because of IE being tied to larger updates and many people having invested in old technology depending on them changing th

Definitely all true. I don't mind putting pressure on Basho for better defaults though. Maybe that will be a 2.0 milestone. Knowing how other databases compared in similar partition tests, Riak is doing just fine.
