Some might consider looking at more than just the time dimension though... Much more memory and more verbose code. I find that this adds up in real systems as there is less to tune for optimal performance and less code to audit.

I wonder if we'll see more user-side emulation of intrinsics given new __attribute__ flags compilers are implementing. It certainly is easier to reason about. Go doesn't have anything like that yet but I wouldn't be surprised if an experime

Well, this article wasn't about _inline_ assembler. Regardless, inline forms have a number of problems, the biggest one being supporting multiple platforms w/o a bunch of preprocessor noise. That doesn't stop it from being useful for certai

I guess that's what you get with pseudo native interface toolkits. Honestly, I can't stand using it, not because it doesn't work, but because it's so inconsistent with everything else I use.

That's great to know. I could probably turn the screen backlight off for a second while taking the shot. I'll play around with some shots from my camera to see how they vary. I'm looking forward to hearing more about these sorts of features

Might there be a way to sample white balance throughout the day to calibrate it using a webcam and a white sheet of paper? I'd probably start using it again if I could avoid fine tuning color temperatures manually.

Lots of optimized code in Go's standard library has fast paths in assembly which is linked into the final binary on a platform by platform basis. I this sense, it's probably easier than C to drop into assembly. Granted, Go's memory model is

It's a fair complaint. Duplicating code just for the sake of type specialization is annoying and interface{} has it's costs as well as dangers. However, the built-in arrays, slices, and maps (which are parametrically polymorphic) seem to ha

I think that's more of a matter of scheduler still being immature. Erlang only added an SMP scheduler in R11 due to the complexities of managing internal state without sacrificing it's soft-realtime abilities. It was also only really reliab

Techically that'd be new revisions since the iPhone comes in multiple SKUs. I think there are 3 different storage capacities multiplied by 3 different radios ( http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/ ) and 2 different colors so that makes it 18 di

I agree on the general notion is coding involves a lot more than meets the eye. Given that, it's probably impossible to claim that coding is learnable in anything less than years of work. Even then, we all know that we learned, one way or a
