I'm from the nordics and I when I was younger I thought of the US as the ultimate place to be. Now, having been there quite a bit, I must say that it really doesn't impress. The impression I got visiting the US in general (NY, Sea

Wait. If the resource at bank.com is protected by a CORS filter, the request which is issued at step three will have an origin header, and the CORS implementation is free to issue a 401 at that point. At least as far as I have understood. T

The mind-twisting part of statistics is that Fat Tony is partially right. Because although each independent throw has the probability of one half, the total resulting series is very unlikely. So you could simultaneously be at awe of the inc

Well, I can imagine the F16 g-limiting system messing with flight controls if the g-sensor is botched. In my eyes the problem isn't so much that the systems are overly invasive, it's more that the failure modes of automation aren&

Story time. A close friend of mine was held in custody in the US based on false accusations by a police officer. The police officer later admitted the false accusations to the judge, that he just wanted to "scare him a bit". The j

I've used many ORMs. I don't hate them, but I think their net utility is negative. While you initially might think that interfacing with the db is going to be very tedious and labor intensive, it usually turns out to not be that b

Interesting implementation. How did the buffers survive process crash? Is that a side-effect of get_user_pages or did you have a userspace daemon?

One idea I've been throwing around is to replace files with HTTP resources; everything is a resource. Effectively Plan9s idea, but the time might be right.

Agreed. RVO is not guaranteed, and move is complex. Smart pointers have overhead. Out params are for the most part a sensible choice in C++. Sadly. I'm honestly shocked that this problem hasn't been addressed in a better way.
