> That is why for example the HVAC repairman charges $300 for changing a $5 capacitor in your AC In my experience, the primary reason they do this, is because they can. Not because their existence requires it to survive.

To actually enforce the policy described in that link, would require authenticating websites when rendering ads. Otherwise, one could just embed an ad from a different domain, and easily defeat this process.

I mean on the page content. Using something like Google's Recaptcha would reduce friction for legit users.

The absolute numbers of deaths are not very interesting. Its the rate of growth of infection and deaths that matter.

Spammers don't use cell phones to make their calls. Most often they just spoof calls using random peoples phone numbers. This would have no effect on spam calls. (I assume you mean phone-spam when you say phone scam?) Not to be paranoi

No doubt, like all things genes, environment has a non-negligible impact.

I always thought it erroneous when people say somebody "has the genes to be a great X" but made nothing of it. The ability to actualize those genes, itself, requires good genes for "executing" (motivation, discipline etc

We need to operate with the assumption that all vulnerabilities that can be exploited for profit, will be. People will be people. The only answer is mechanisms that make it less profitable.

If Facebook disappeared tomorrow, I don't think it would make a difference. The same incentives and behavior patterns still continue to exist, so something else would fill its place.

Interesting how we tend to value life based on intellectual capability. I suppose its an emergent effect of our human-driven empathy. You could make the argument that being an omnivore is the most "moral" standing (excluding clima

What is the motivation behind the cheating and plagiarism? This would seem to imply that students do not care about learning the underlying skill. Why would a country encourage this?

I don't think anyone is recommending remote controlled cars. It's about having a fallback to handle edge-case scenarios (e.g. toll ways, construction zones), likely at slower speeds, as AI is already quite good at reacting rapidly

How does that account for time waiting between rides? With increased wages, we can expect increased supply of drivers, leading to more drivers waiting. That is unless they apply a cap to the amount of active drivers, which would cause its o

I think plant-based is actually a selling point currently, so they would be doing themselves a disservice by not making it explicit on the product. I don't expect people to buy it accidentally. As for the wording, I don't see why

Good question. Can the attacker force an existing paired device to re-negotiate the pairing process, or is this attack only viable against devices that have not yet paired?

The quantity of reviews is super important. Anybody can build a 5 star rating by getting 3 friends to post reviews. Do these restaurants with "mediocre food" have many reviews?

The volume of fake reviews is simply too much, and its much cheaper to create them, than it is to combat them. A good measure of this is, compare the prices for fake reviews on both platforms, I suspect Google will be significantly cheaper.
