One question: with such varying cannabis tolerances, how one reason about impairment levels at a given concentration? I think it’s well-intentioned, but expect this to primarily overestimate impairment of chronic users and underestimate tha

Most basic science is funded by the government, at least in the US, whose money in turn comes from taxes.

Specifically: template<typename T> struct TD; Instantiate this as ‘TD<decltype(foo)>’ to get the full name of the type. Rust’s does seem more concise.

It’s traditional to build these kinds of loops in C, e.g.: int c; while((c = getopt(argc, argv, argstr)) >= 0) {...} I’d say it’s acceptable, and Python is adding syntax so it can mix assignments and checks.

Coincidentally, cling (wrapped by xeus-cling) is also a product from CERN.

I’ve found self-serve gas stations which assault you with loud video ads, and recently they haven’t even supported turning volume off. I never revisit such gas stations.

There’s a hit that comes from “frequency scaling” on avx512 and avx2 instructions on Intel (worse for 512), so a total of fewer instructions isn’t always worth it. IIRC, AMD doesn’t pay a cost for avx2, but I don’t know how it works.

The point is, getting punitive damages from Google and shaming Google from how you were treated are very different endpoints.

What’s your top-k algorithm? I’ve used count sketches and heaps (I read heavy-keeper strictly outperforms count/count-min). I’ve also been told some variant of a hierarchical count sketch provides composability, but I’m not sure what t

There’s a similar tch-rs project wrapping libtorch, and in general, deeclaring neural networks is particularly intuitive in functional languages.

You’re correct, the above poster is more enthusiastic than accurate. I knew Carl Woese, who discovered Archaea through this analysis, during my time at UIUC.

That makes more sense, though not actually part of the language. Smart pointers were the only thing close that came to mind for that reason. I’ve used the Clang experimental lifetime analyzer on Godbolt, and I welcome improved tooling.

In what way do you think C++ is borrowing the idea of a borrow-checker? Smart pointers pre-date Rust.

This is analogous to spans and views in C++. I've rather enjoyed using span-lite [0], an implementation compatible with earlier C++ standards. (Roughly, all the syntactic niceness of an STL container without requiring ownership.) [0]

I’ve run into this for simple tasks on a GPU, like merging sorted lists. The massive parallelism can’t make up for the transfer costs unless the operations performed are expensive enough. The “roofline” model is usually the perspective used

My favorite recording of D960 is the Horowitz 25th anniversary recital performance. It’s at once light, powerful, and swift, seemingly abstracting away the specifics of instrumentation in its phrasing and singing.

No, infecting them with measles and quarantining them isn’t “actual murder of a population”. Strawmanning an argument to an ad hominem is two leaps too far.

As an aside, Converge’s official lyrics include the phrase “soul survivors”. While it is almost certainly an error, it’s felt poetic to me, as if implying that suffering is an inevitable consequence of consciousness.

If I understand correctly, the idea isn’t that you’d only use the architecture untrained, but that its goal is better architecture discovery for given tasks or groups of tasks. Is that accurate?

That’s MSNBC, not NYT. In fact, their coverage goes out of their way to support centrist positions. (Unless you’re discussing their opinion columns, which include everyone from Gorbachev to Sean Spicer to Chelsea Manning.)

As an amateur pianist, it’s worth adding that there’s a status hierarchy. Pre-war (WWII) Hamburg Steinways are supposed to unparalleled, followed by Hamburg post, then New York in general.
