Although libraries like threejs (or softwares like blender) give you so many tools and knobs to play around, I cannot for the life of me make a scene look so great. The lighting, the composition, the textures, the even level of detail… I wo

Thanks for trying it out! Op commands are disabled because I haven't gotten around to making every user admin by default. I also remember some vague security concerns on the back of my head ;D. It would be cooler if I could also let yo

If my memory serves me correctly, it is rather easy to decouple natural from player made blocks. It was either stored separately on storage or at worst you can deduce it by "subtracting" a fresh chunk generated from the seed. Then

Yup. In my experience a stable server requires about 700MB of RAM. There are reports on https://www.reddit.com/r/admincraft/ saying you can run it in 200 MB but I haven't managed. Probably with the right swap

BTW, other fun hacks include: 1) Initial world creation is quite slow - 10-15 seconds on a moderately powerful hardware. Since I want first joins to be as fast as possible, I keep 1000 pre-generated worlds and one of them is chosen randomly

I wrote effectively the same thing without AWS lambdas https://playmcnow.com/ It’s so cheap[1] to start and stop servers on demand that I’ve decided to give “away” servers for free. I wrote a little proxy in Go that detects

I haven’t gotten around to implementing such functionality. Although I wish I could monetise it, right now it’s just a hobby project and don’t put much work into it.

A couple of weeks ago I made https://playmcnow.com with the opposite idea - have many super lightweight servers for small groups of players. Instead of saying to friends “register to digital ocean, pay $5 and get a Minecraft box

The paper has a paragraph or two dedicated to the software used: > All Cognitron tests were programmed in HTML5 with JavaScript by AH and WT. They were hosted on a custom server system (Cognitron) on the Amazon EC2 that can support diver

The idea is great but I believe the filter needs some tweaking to deliver actual "pog" moments. I wonder if similar thing is used internally by twitch's recommendation system.

This makes no sense to me. Why is google building it? They want a more stable experience by using a microkernel and pushing everything to the userland? Maybe this will help with updates and vendors letting their devices rot? Or is it someth

I found the add extremely thoughtful in its use of imagery. The guy "helping" the protagonist by giving his personal information to the taxi driver is a clever way to demonstrate how convenience is not always better than privacy.

As far as I know the bulk of the magic happens in libinput - the touchpad driver. It is the DE's job to take the recognized gestures and turn them into a useful action. It is even easier in wayland, but only KDE and Gnome seem to be th

Not the proper thread for this discussion, but I don’t know if I want Reddit to stop it. Do you want free speech and all the speech you don’t like with it? Or you want heavily moderated echo chamber? It seems to me people want neither - the
