Reminds me of Lynn Hill (one of my climbing heros) advocating that men and women should compete together on the same routes [1] [1]: http://www.nytimes.com/1989/12/31/magazine/cliffhanger.html?...

When you become a cop (and I use that word loosely to mean anyone who is empowered by the broad law enforcement system) everyone else becomes a potential criminal.

How about exiting the highway and calling the police? Seems like the most prudent course for everyone.

Indeed. I saw Sin City (an exceedingly violent movie) in a theater. A woman (presumably the mother) and two young boys (~8 and 11) were seated in the row in front of me. She didn't bat an eye at the violence, but yelped and shielded th

Don't get used to it. This winter has been historically dry and warm in PDX. Snowpack in the Cascades is ~11% of normal this year.

Homeowner's insurance, or mortgage insurance? The former is cheap, the latter, not so much.

I don't understand the appeal of touch screens (really, not trolling). What sort of tasks do you find one superior for?

The very first cut (the "foreshots") really smell like something you shouldn't consume due to the presence of acetone and some other compounds that are detectable in very small concentrations.

It's mostly a myth that relying on JavaScript makes a website inaccessible (partially propagated by the woefully out of date Section 508 requirements in the US - the update is currently in progress and will be very close to WCAG 2.0 [1

I think the outdoors can be a great teacher - I know it has been for me about things like this. Many years ago a friend and I went to Yosemite to do a climb on Half Dome. Day one we were humping up to Little Yosemite Valley. It was a hot da

How do you square that with high school football, where the participants are minors? Would there even be a NFL without high school leagues?

There are automated tools, but in my experience they mostly pick up the easy things (missing alt attributes, etc.) The harder bits are focus and notification in SPAs. Read the WCAG docs [1] and the and WAI ARIA docs [2] stick to them. Then

It's entirely dependent upon both the difficulty and the relative risk of the climb. The Edge at Tahquitz Rock [1], at "merely" 5.11a (R) has seen far fewer ascents than most 5.14 climbs. Similarly, the Bachar-Yerian at 5.11c

Beating pins in and out is a lot different that placing and removing a stopper. The only rock that is significantly damaged by clean climbing gear is (soft) sandstone and the like.
