In SSB, pubs seem like an essential (and flawed) part of the network, and this may be true at the present time, but not forever. I'm working on a few alternatives to pub servers, one of them is a server that has no storage of data, it

Yes, I've been without using Google Search for more than 2 years. I'm using DuckDuckGo, and honestly very satisfied with it (I particularly enjoy using `!` shortcuts, like !w or !d). Also have stopped using: Maps, Docs, GMail, and

One very basic value proposition of decentralization for consumers in the context of the internet is offline usage. When you're in an airplane, that's when the need to have the capability at the end device becomes most obvious, an

OP used an argument I see too often: that the (current) market success of centralization is evidence of centralization's superiority with consumers. For instance: > Open platforms can’t win by directly appealing to users on philosop

It would be like an Observable, where the Observer's next/error/complete are changed from X=>() to X=>Promise where the Promise indicates the Observer is done with the consumption, telling the producer that it can conti

I think the underlying issue here is ownership of a package, that is the sensitive thing that was given away. This is why I prefer to publish scoped packages, e.g. `@dominictarr/event-stream` not `event-stream` onto npm, so that owners

That article was written many months/years before Cycle-React interop was built. I still maintain some of those positions because of Redux, but when you take React without Redux, it's just a rendering library, and as such could be

I didn't say "observables are not asynchronous", I was referring to the comment "interactions between components are asynchronous" which to me sounds like "event emission and propagation". Propagation is o

Two corrections: RxJS is not my project, I only helped as a contributor (sometimes voluntary; sometimes core). And second: stream chains are not necessarily asynchronous, in fact they are synchronous by default. I don't know what the c

I suppose you were using Cycle.js before Cycle State was released. There are a few other projects in production like yours, some of them successfully applying the framework, and others that found difficulties with state management and wirin

I totally agree with the two issues you listed! I think both of them are well enough addressed with Cycle State, a new state management library. It has an API makeCollection() specifically meant for dynamic lists, with good DX and great per

When the internet is being mostly used (and increasingly more so) from mobile phones, why does Beaker focus on desktop? And further, do you think the web (both old web in conventional browsers and new web in Beaker) is desktop-first? (I

Some people in the community have generous internet servers (pubs) also giving invites to people, but that can only work up until some point. Here's a way to easily setup a server yourself on DigitalOcean: http://butt.nz

Intersections are allowed. It's not like you need strictly one server per community, because servers are just mirrors of each community member. In fact, when a server goes down, no data is lost and it's easy to put a new one up.
