No, I presented the consequences of their goal. Removing paywalled results from search engines will result in it being harder for people to be paid for their work. Why is it considered bad form to remind people of that?

I'm not seeing the repeated incivility. That comment was on the line, but none of the others were. Please provide an explanation as to why it was uncivil.

The guy who said that he wants paywalled sites punished for trying to get paid for their work.

How is this incivility?

Why shouldn't people be able to get paid for their work? No one is forcing you to pay them; it's just the same as anything else has been: If you want the product of someone's labor, you pay them what they ask for.

So the conclusion is that the people who actually build the thing don't matter, so the company should feel free to fuck them at will. So why should anyone ever work at a startup that isn't guaranteeing them market rate compensatio

If I'm not being paid market rate, I am being given equity, and I'm expected to work the typical startup bullshit hours, then there is absolutely no way you can say I'm not risking both money and time.

I guess the question is, do you want to motivate, or do you actually want to reward? Cause equity seems pretty good for motivating without having to actually pay out.

What're the odds that equity actually ends up making up for the difference in salary, though?

I'm sorry, but no, it doesn't. Sometimes people just do things the wrong way, and there's nothing that can be done other than to tell them they're doing things wrong.

That tends to get you a reputation, which makes it harder to find more freelancers.

I think the point is that line of reasoning is pretty self-defeating, because the guy left. But if they had paid him in line with what value he was bringing to the company, he might not have.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that some 85% of people reading this do not have 1 million in the bank, let alone a few. So that's just worrying about a problem that most are never really going to encounter. That being said, mo

Only if people get into the habit of providing backup for their claims. I feel it is completely warranted, as there really is no evidence whatsoever for their claim.
