I cannot disagree more on the idea that HN is "rarely toxic". Especially when it comes to the topics of discrimination and sexism. When those topics come up, the place is filled with "I didn't see it, so it doesn't exist," and "But... but what about white males? They're clearly the most discriminated against." So I'm not going to fault anyone for not wanting to discuss those topics on a place that routinely becomes toxic when discussing them.
