Do you have a concrete example of a laptop from 15 years ago that in your view and experience had better design than the current generation MacBook Pro?

Great comment. Kind of illustrates how detached they are from actual substance and how shallow their understanding of what bad UX really means.

Another way to say it would be: XMPP is hostile to power efficiency.

My understanding is that every employees compensation (from the janitor to the CEO) is basically a function of “how different would the outcome for the shareholders be if this person was replaced with someone else”. Obviously Apple wouldn’t

More like “five richest people in the US according to their tax returns”. Nobody has counted the money of the Saudi Prince, the president of Russia, and a few dozen other characters like these. Intuitively it feels like their wealth would e

As someone who drove both, I vehemently disagree. Stripped of logos, one is delightful, the other just nominally gets the job done. The Mercedes has superior suspension that feels plush and smooth. Wonderful materials in the cabin that feel

How do you regulate advertising without severely restricting freedom of speech? Communism seems like the only reasonable way — at least then you’re only restricting your own speech as the entity who produces these things.

Because when you're the sole owner and provider of goods, advertisement loses all meaning. I grew up in the Soviet Union. There was one type of milk on the shelf, it was called "Milk", and I don't remember the label sayi

Am I right that the only truly systemic solution to the problem of ads is government regulation, with communism as its final degree?

So much this. I don’t think we fully fathom how much everything on the Internet has degraded. And we and our children have degraded with it. Like frogs boiling alive in a pot, we never noticed it because of how gradually they increased the

The problem with building Uber and Lyft isn’t the process of writing the software — that’s been done many times over. The hard part of course is investing the money in marketing and support to match the user recognition and experience that

I did mention objects, not numbers. Maybe “symbols” representing concepts. I’d go with “name” for both zero and one — nonexistence and existence.

I’d paraphrase. I’d say that zero and one are the only objects. Everything else is a name. So in a sense math is exploration of the relation between existence and nonexistence.

I now hate YouTube so much because of ads that I wonder which is WORSE for their company — watching the ads or paying for premium, just to take the option that gives them least benefit.
