While it may not be news, and it may not be immediately useful or directly applicable, I found this a fascinating process, and a good illustration how something very simple can be a very effective solution.

That's not a bad salary for an intern position, especially if there are bonuses involved. In a lot of industries, internships are unpaid or very poorly paid. Software development pays rather well, but I certainly didn't make that

If lower end smartphones adopt this kind of camera (which I think is unlikely) then point-and-shoot cameras could have a problem. However, comparing a $600 iPhone to a $70 point-and-shoot is not really relevant.

Interesting, I hadn't seen Persona before (I associated it with their previous "Firefox Persona" skinning system.

Finally, some positive news out of Africa! Let's hope we (both local governments and groups, and Western "aid") don't screw this up. I'm not familiar with the Kenyan political climate, so if anyone else has some exp

2013 and we still haven't really gotten to a good, universal single-sign on system. OpenID seemed like it was going to get us there (at least to me), but nowadays many sites moved away in favour of Google or Facebook or Twitter specifi

As someone who tried repeatedly to make a game but never finished (or came as far as you have), I can only congratulate you on doing better. I could only see the video on youtube as the site is down, but it looks a lot like a "2D Minec

I wasn't aware that the gender balance was tipped towards the female side for so long. Thanks for the information. I agree with your final point, but to be honest in my personal experience, I've only encountered one case of sexism

I'm aware of this, but I didn't realize it lasted so long. I would have expected by the 1960's that the field was firmly male-dominated.

I bet she never complained about the computer industry or navy being sexist and dominated by males. Even if she did, it seems like she coped rather well.

I was thinking something along the same lines, I think it's illegal to comment on ongoing investigations. The case might have been dormantly open until recently, when it was closed because of a lack of new information.

I have a 7 year old 1680x1050 laptop at work (which is, unfortunately, still a better display than most people have). It doesn't fit completely on my screen either. This site doesn't seem to have been tested on sub-FHD resolutions

That still means it's a very asymmetric competition: by default, Apple has a significant head start because of the JIT. If others have to do some crazy engineering on networking libraries, nothing stops Apple from reusing the concepts

I had heard about the JS runtime restriction (which is why I was interested if Opera had avoided it somehow), but never heard about the JIT restriction. Is the JIT disabled for all third party apps? I was going to make a joke about Soviet a

This promo site is a bit blurry on what it actually does. A browser with a focus on gestures sounds like it could be very useful, if done right. I haven't seen that many apps or platforms get gestures "right" though. I wonder
