I agree. I worked for a company that was building their own TV platform on top of Android. From their (and my) point of view, Android was meaningfully open. You don't need Google's closed services to have a working and meaningful

Is it that much harder to find a job when you turn 35? I mean, a lot of my older colleagues have had a hard time finding jobs, but most of them are not very passionate about what they do. They want to work right next to their own front door

I would follow yk's advice: it is much easier to get a Visum when you are invited to work for a company. Is asking the startup for employment an option?

A friend of mine did the same to improve his ambidexterity (he's a surgeon and fine motion is important to him). I can't get used to it though.

I think this is not inherently true for all humans though. Not all noise prevents me from doing "insightful" tasks. Passing cars, birds, heavy winds or unintelligible conversation don't seem to bother me. Conversations I can

I agree that defacing is not the best way to go about this, but taking down the site and/or holding your own work hostage until a payment is made seems fair to me.

HN has downvotes if you have over 500 karma. There's always the flag button to report content you consider unfit for HN (this article would match that criterion in your case).

I'm in Europe, but it may well be that a similar law is in effect here. However, a lot of consumers (me included) wouldn't know about that, and companies try to get out of repairs that they are legally required to perform. Take a

Exactly the same experience here, except that I never had a mini-USB failure. After roughly 6 months of use, the USB receptacle of my LG smartphone was just not holding on to any cable anymore. I sent it back to LG, and they replaced the pa

I've been following the development of Rodina[1], which is a similar game except that it uses Lua instead of a DCPU, and has made decent progress in the past year. It will also follow a release early, release often way of working, with
