Your business expenses are not my problem. The grocery store doesn't get to charge people when they order too much perishable fruit. Your of a different opinion, that's your prerogative. Just don't expect everyone to feel the

> What, exactly, is "entitled" about asking someone to cancel through a simple process on the same web site they signed up with? The fact that you feel entitled to their hard earned money, despite providing no service or value.

If you tried that with someone who cared, you could get taken to small claims court. And it would end up costing you a lot even if your defense prevailed. In TX at least, companies are not allowed to use lawyers in small claims court. You a

It's not though. This is why Agile is such a failure. Because people don't actually read the Manifesto. It doesn't say planning is unimportant. It doesn't say contract negotiation is unimportant. It doesn't say time

I played around with a Franklin PC 8088 when I was a kid for a couple years that we had it. I tried BASIC but never got close to my goal of writing a Tic Tac Toe program. Didn't know how to read input. Didn't even know that the &q

I thought his posts on the subject were a mix of pragmatism and satire? A "this is how the world works, you've got this, here's what you'll face". Was it not meant to be satirical? Was he genuinely advocating squeez

That's just Array.forEach in JS. Or in Scala: (1 to 5) foreach { _ => println("look, a line!") } That's really nothing to do with Sets.

I really dislike Either personally. I much prefer Scalatic's "Either with attitude" Or. It's also the only natural use of infix type notation I'm familiar with so that's kind of neat. I frequently see Either ab

I'll concede that. But you have to admit this is an incredibly niche problem space. OTOH the JVM will have much higher throughput on the other 99% of apps. Don't get me wrong. I like Erlang. It's definitely in my top.. Uhm...

Akka checks most of those boxes AFAIK. And there's really not much you can do in the way of cheating unless I misunderstand you. Or at least idiomatically you wouldn't cheat in Scala anyways. Speaking of which, I just realized the

And maybe in a project with truly massive memory requirements that's an issue. I've never encountered it (as an issue that is) But I only got into the JVM on 1.6 with Jruby, made the switch to Scala around 1.7, and have been on 1.

I guess the accidental mutability is a good point. Working in Scala, I've never encountered that. You do learn not to close over local scopes in futures pretty quickly though.

That's just not true. The Escalade gets a score 258% lower than the average. That's abysmal. And from your story, it sounds like you could've done a lot worse than to pick up a subscription no? Look, I'm not a CR fanboy.
