I've found what Ben Horowitz has written about management to be incredibly helpful. I am lucky to never have had to lay people off, however, if I did, I'd go to this first: http://www.bhorowitz.com/the_right_way_to

I always wondered why more energy wasn't generated from nuclear. On paper it seems like a great energy source. Kudos to Sam for putting not just his money, but his time where his mouth is. If only the rest of the internet could do the

No, clusters are multi-tenant. We have a cap on the number of customers per cluster and we monitor usage to make sure no one customer is hammering the cluster.

If you're so sure, why don't you take the bet that Sam offered? All this cheap talk on HN and no one wants to put their money where their mouth is.

Sorry to hear that the experience was tough. One thing I'd recommend for anyone new to it- get help from someone who's been an enterprise sales person before. This can speed up the learning curve dramatically. Even then it's

That's the hard part though, isn't it? Telling the difference between bad ideas and good ones. Even professionals at it (AKA venture capitalists) get it wrong all the time. So the questions is- knowing that you don't know whe

Congrats guys! We at Amplitude are very lucky you guys exist. For quite a while, a majority of our new inbounds mentioned that they first saw Amplitude through the list of tools at Segment. A lot of companies see Segment as a recommendation

That's still impressive! It took you two seconds while it took us 3 code iterations to get it right. It seems so obvious in retrospect but in the moment it can be hard to use the full range of your intuition about math. That knowledge

One of the problems we had to solve is compressing the data set so you don't need to keep too many bins around. To get one more significant figure, you need to keep 10x the number of bins. Once you have those individual bins you can al
