I can never figure out Canonical's logic with going off to do their own thing. They don't do it with everything, so clearly it's not a complete rejection of things not made in-house. It seems like they also often end up going

I ended up heading off to Arch. I've always enjoyed messing around with nonstandard desktop setups, and it was really appealing for that because of the lean default system that Arch provides, along with the availability of so much soft

Even without the specific downsides of snap that you've noted, having two parallel package managers that each have zero visibility into each other feels like such an antipattern and UX failure to me. Needing to use two different tools

Good point. I actually just discovered via a link in the TomsHardware article that the Seagate drive I purchased a couple weeks ago is, in fact, SMR. While I shouldn't have issues with it because my workloads aren't particularly w

Hopefully Seagate and the other manufacturers that've been caught doing this will follow suit. It sucks to be a tech consumer buying expensive hardware like this and not feeling like you can trust the company selling it.

I set up a Minecraft server for some friends a few weeks ago, and I learned firsthand how huge of a performance improvement one can get by dropping the render distance. My basic understanding of the problem is that it's less of a graph

I mean, looking at that page, AMD's current real consumer offerings probably bottom out at the Athlon chips. I haven't seen an FX chip in a newly released system in a long time, and the A-series chips seem to be on their way out

Additionally, you also get a really solid stock CPU cooler compared to Intel's. If you're building a PC in the price range where these sit, that $20 you save by not needing an aftermarket cooler can be huge, allowing you to get

While the 1600AF is great(basically a 2600 under the name of the 1600 for anyone who's confused), the different ways one can buy one aren't the clearest about whether it's actually the AF. At least personally, I'd be war

I think the segmentation is reasonable enough for typical users. Any basic user just looking for something like a desktop would only see the Ryzen 3/5/7/9 desktop SKUs, and those have a pretty sensible and intuitive segmentat

Super happy to see this; having more low-price desktop processor options is great for anyone looking to build a desktop. Also excited for the B550 platform; it's been a while since they updated the mid range motherboard options.

Absolutely. I had a 6s until last October, and I would definitely have considered this strongly over the 11 or 11 Pro. Getting the newer CPU in a package still roughly palm-sized would be awesome.
