I tend to agree with you: without MEANINGFUL employment (and I don't mean some feel good no value job), people's self worth on these areas would tank, and dive into coping and depression.

Virtualization and time sync have had notorious problems. One ugly work around was frequent NTP polling and adjustments. NTP has a min and max poll interval, and it determines how frequently it should poll automatically based on how far i

Great article, shared it on with my coworkers. - poorly, really. - for network, and security stuff, absolutely: splunk is the bees knees. For apps, each team tends to run their own mix (graylog2/elk/custom). Have pushed for more s

Super highly unlikely. If it's anything like the other corporate incubators: they only fund initiatives which benefit parent company, and only give you a bonus of sorts and a role as a program manager (with some corporate handholding a

Exactly this.. The about shops that have all their server tooling for Linux, and want this nice 3rd party tool but it requires SQL Server.. Either team grins and bears supporting a one off OS and application, or they find another solution a

Yes but that is more for standard idle time expiration.. The problem being addressed above is for actively invalidating an existing JWT for a user once they already have it (and before the default/original expiry is met).

fully agreed here, especially leave yourself room for when you misjudged some resource utilization (and need more). Nothing worse than having a resource crunch (cpu/mem/io) and not being able to resolve it because your rack is out

i've noticed more and more cheap USB wall-wart chargers. I can hear them pulsing, it's sort of interesting, but super frustrating when trying to go to sleep (I end up just unplugging.. for which you can hear it scream as it drains

Definitely, but key is to actually THINK, and reason about it, not just worry/stress about it! Great irony also is that I've seen teams try to be agile , which they seem to think means code > design.. Often ends up poorly.

Difference is I can do traffic analysis and RST generation over lots of machines (if it gets slow, worst case my RST gets there late). Changing routes/forwarding table action has to happen on machine moving large data, in real time.

Reality is in a large org, process can usually be sidestepped with emergency change requests and executive sponsor. Which is basically what happened here, it just took extra days because it wasn't started that way.

apples and oranges actually. Azure RBAC is great in that you can keep it within the same account. Orgs and accounts means you can never really share resources, nor move them between. Think about what happens if you have a VPC in account A,

Really large organizations will appreciate this, IAM is not sufficient. Many account limits impact larger orgs, and having to ensure each accounts policies are set right is a trust exercise. It's much nicer to have policy trickle down
