From my reading of the article, a lot of the performance improvements come getting rid of the mutex in front of their hash based metadata cache by using a lock free hashing algo. These changes originally came from Oracle's MySQL 5.7 wo

That was my thought as well, but this change was done by an Operator and not a DBA, who tend to be a bit more curious about these kinds of changes.

I've answered this question once before, and this is what I wrote. MySQL is battle tested and operationally sane to manage at scale; I'm talking specifically about replication. I've been a DBA for thousands of MySQL hosts in

That may be why MySQL is popular for small installations, but that's not why it's popular with companies like Facebook, Google, Twitter, and Pinterest who run replicated clusters that number in the thousands. It's popular at

I've lived in Seattle since the late 80s when I got the hell out of Olympia WA where I grew up. I remember when it was nearly impossible to find a decent tech job in the city, and you had to cross a bridge to Bellevue or Redmond, which

I think GarageBand also ships with the OS (or at least it used to) so I wouldn't be surprised if it's also on the "system owned" list. This pushes all my security vs. liberty buttons.

Thanks for bringing this up, I just cancelled my download. There is no way I'm going to run an OS that attempts to limit my power to delete or modify applications. I think this may be the final straw for me and OSX. I very recently had

I disliked this article as well. Saying 'Ctrl-f' instead of 'search' irks me, it's unprofessional, and furthermore we all know Ctrl-f is forward-char.

A readable 80x24 text mode is the bare minimum for programming IMHO. It's probably detailed enough for that, but it's not going rival your laptop/desktop experience any time soon.
