I WANT to say that a Citroen DS's adjustable suspension could be genuinely useful in some situations. But presumably nowadays DSs are so old that they break down all the time, and the fact that I want to forgive them nicely illustrate

I agree - the book's main claim has been the orthodoxy in history of science for decades. (No doubt there are many new details in the book - I haven't read it.)

And Delta Chat encrypts not only messages but also metadata, right? Although only when used properly - again, there's no point in relying on Delta Chat if your correspondent is going to forward your messages to people on gmail.

IMO this author is very good at philosophy of mathematics as well as mathematics. He's not COMPLETELY alone in that, but it is refreshing.

Yes, there are places that are using NixOS in production. I don't know the details, so this is a placeholder for someone else to fill in - or else ask on the NixOS subreddit or IRC channel.

And also, if I understand correctly, NixOS and Guix need much less help from developers than this proposal would have. Specifically, NixOS and Guix don't care how anyone names anything (except, of course, their dogs).

I see the article says "oldest continuously operating". Sigh. I wish the headline were accurate.

Me too. I think (hope) that the NixOS community won't end up doing all the work it would take to break up the existing monorepo; instead they'll just add a few small additional repos.

As someone who's read a lot of work on the philosophy of quantum mechanics, I want to say that this piece is VERY well written. (And I wasn't the person who posted it to HN.)

Someone will save money by no longer having to store the prototype artefacts ... unless we're in any danger of running out of caesium atoms.

I believe some operating systems have patches to get around this problem? See https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/61076 for example.

P.S. Also, Mullvad's staff have been doing some work to try to improve wireguard.

Mullvad, because it has a good interface for port forwarding, and I kinda like the fact that it supports wireguard. It's also fast and reliable (but so are many of the others), and apparently has good privacy. I've previously use

There are MANY foundations for set theory, some of them very different from each other. It's completely pointless to treat the subject as briefly as this post does.

I'm not the person you're replying to, but stumpwm just works in NixOS.

Just to clarify, they do the final mix and mastering of each piece on a variety of speakers. But right - the closer they get to the finished product the less they care how it sounds through expensive equipment.

Most Nix packages, yes, but the NixOS packages specifically (the ones that build Linux), probably not. NixOS and Guix have slightly different philosophies, e.g. about nonfree software (Guix is generally opposed to including it, although I&

I know that Nix users respect Guix (well, the ones who talk on IRC, at the very least), and I'm sure it's mutual ... and I think it's very helpful to make this mutual respect public!

I totally agree, but that's because I've read more details about this idea elsewhere. Could you (or someone else) please post citations to more explanations?

I don't know why it was initially deemed preferable, but as a user it was really nice to have something different for a change.

Great work! Thank you! At the moment it seems that a lot of NixOS users (including me) prefer a keyboard-centric window manager to a full desktop environment, but obviously (well I think it's obvious, anyway) there's a place for

Are you sure they don't? NixOS can be installed on top of any Linux distribution, unless the hardware is really weird. ETA: It looks like it is complicated, but might work. See https://nixos.wiki/wiki/NixOS_on_AR
