You've described what I would call a "rewrite", just one that was thoughtfully planned out. Another benefit is that you have the existing, running system, to use as test validation. If the new black box works exactly like the

But isn't the term "Technical Debt" meant to help business-people understand an issue that, while real, and though inherently grasped by people who write software, not necessarily by others in positions to make resource alloc

From the article, it seems like the latter. They tested at 6 months. If they test those same people again later, then we will possibly have a new high-water mark for the duration of immunity. For now, we can only say “at least 6 months”

If you look at China, but omit Wuhan, then wouldn’t the better comparison be to the U.S., omitting Louisiana? Why take the highest region in the U.S., and compare to another country while specifically omitting the highest region there?

Certainly in my county, many fewer people are dying even though many more are testing positive. Many more people are getting tested, for job requirements, travel, etc. It results in more positives, naturally. In a county of more than 3 mill

Agree. The value to the employer of two equally-talented and hard-working remote employees is the same. Why pay differently, and if you were paying different rates, I'd expect over time (a decade?) that differential would go away.

The comment is making the case that you might expect it to be safe to take as much D3, as your body makes naturally with a small amount of sun exposure. It's not arguing that you should go skiing and get sunburnt.

I think it is actually the intended policy. It would probably be the same under any administration. Abuse of the current system essentially incentivises consulting companies to compete with each other based on salary structure. The ones wil

You should test your serum D3 level first, if its fine, why take anything? If its low, take whatever gets you into the normal range. Personally, I think 600 IU isn't going to move the needle much, based on information here https:/

It might be a good idea to go outside at lunch to get some sun. WFH doesn't have to mean staying inside 24 hours a day.

Pretty common to see 5000IU actually. Many people living in high latitudes need to take something like that amount just to stay in the normal range.

I can say, as an anecdote of one, that I have been taking 5000 IU of D3 along with K2 and Magnesium every day (almost) for about 3-4 years, with no ill effects and what I believe to be a positive effect, in that I have not been ill at all d

Can you give me an example of the kind of “weak environmental policy” you are talking about? One which would lead to more wildfires on the west coast? Because the only policy I know of that leads to more wildfires, is the 20th century mista

You could say, running the company with MBAs, instead of BSEEs, when their competitors were doing the opposite. Putting the money they spent on acquisitions, into manufacturing technology, process innovation, etc. would have kept them right

Agree with "herd immunity strategy by default". Absent a vaccine, about the same percentage of people will become sick, while a larger percentage is exposed but does not become sick. At some point, again minus a vaccine, few enoug

I wonder about this hope for a vaccine, and if it is a reasonable thing to base policy on. There is still no vaccine for HIV, after several decades of trying and many billions spent. None for SARS1, Mers, the commom cold. There are influenz

Back then, we were told that the lockdown was a temporary measure to avoid overloading the hospital infrastructure. We needed to allow time for hospitals to add beds, respirators, etc. “Flattening the curve”. Then the goalposts were moved.

In California, 89% of the state's water usage is agricultural; only 11% is consumers. Thus, of course you would force consumers to use only low-flow shower heads, and... problem solved.

Or, at least put it into a per-capita number. Normal flu season in the US is 40K+. Heart disease is. Cancer is. Auto accidents. Opiate overdose deaths. The population of the us is 18 X that of Sri Lanka, so all sorts of unfortunate, but non

Of the 1.5 M, only a small fraction would be from Covid 19 exclusively; CDC states 94% of deaths listing Covid 19 as a cause had co-morbidities, meaning other things that they also died from other than Covid 19. So the actual increase in de

I don't think you are talking about the same number. Original mentioned that the number of deaths in 2020 would be 3% more than the number of deaths in 2019, not that 3% of the population had died. That would be 240 Million people!
