The only way that more-than-2-dimensional UIs will work will be if there's an extra dimension _only_ for each of the elements ("in-and-out" for the window stack, etc)... otherwise people will get frustrated with mousing... Don't even get me

I also work in an environment with people who should not be going near their command line. Well, its not that they shouldn't but they don't want to be forced to learn commands. I'm working on a Git GUI that should be fairly beautiful (I'm a

We've used ConstantContact for some time. It's nothing special but it gets the job done. I'm not a big fan of the logo on their emails, but I don't really mind. I do use phpmailer to send off some stuff to me on my server, but nothing for m

Trick question... (S)he celebrates festivus. Honestly, anything from thinkgeek.com should be fun, but I love what is going on with the donations from those T-shirts.

This is actually the distro I used before Ubuntu got big. I loved it, it did everything I needed it to do while still being debian based.

This is why we need to teach numbers and concepts, not names. I admit that the English number system is flawed, but that's what digits are for, right? 37 = 3(10s)7. Its just a shortcut, we can express 37 to be 3*10 + 7, but its just not wor

OO property 1: You're in a house. An appliance is a physical object that does something. A fridge is an appliance that keeps things cold, a toaster is an appliance that makes things warm, a blender is an appliance that blends things. If yo

C# has got a bunch of neat functional stuff in it (Microsoft's researchers have seen the glory of functional languages), but Java might be easier to start off with. Once you can get through Java, everything else you learn will feel immensel

For one of my blogs, we got fed up with IE6 compatibility... so we just made a little javascript that would forward users of IE6 to a page with screenshots of our site and a little "Dude, upgrade your browser." This was for a corporate blog

I don't have any tangible credentials (read: I'm not a doctor), but my data comes from being mildly obsessed about nutrition (heredity isn't on my side) and from reading as much as I possibly can about nutrition (American Society for Nutrit

For most of my life I wasn't Lactose-intolerant... In the past year or so I've somehow managed to convince my body to start mutating the shape of those oh-so-wonderful lactase enzymes. Now, I don't _have_ to drink lactase-added milk, but it

SuSE makes me cry. I mean, it's a great desktop distro... but I'm not sure how stable it is for servers. I could be completely wrong, but I'm completely biased from the dep-hell I had to go through with SuSE a while ago.
