The NRA/Republican Party's interpretation of the 2nd amendment is a total fabrication. The amendment was meant to apply to a standing militia organized by a state (potentially in opposition to the federal government). The Founders

In my mind, a startup is a not a 'business' by any reasonable definition of that word. Steve Blank has the best and probably final take on this: "a startup is an organization formed to search for a repeatable and scalable bus

I once had the ‘privilege’ of talking to one of the admissions directors at my alma mater (an Ivy fwiw). An eminently qualified Asian candidate I had interviewed was rejected (while an inferior Jewish-Cuban candidate from the same school wa

I've found the opposite approach to be more useful: elimination, selectivity, and focus. For example: Read only the best books, take notes on them, and absorb them fully. Book lists are good, but they tend to grow unbounded and promote

Spending time on HN has allowed me to keep in touch with the pulse of the tech industry and the cutting edge in software. Honestly, many individual sessions of delving into HN end up feeling like a waste of time. However, there are enough i

Many of the deficiencies he noted are easily mitigated by tightly integrating the Go toolchain (and in particular the metalinter) with your development environment and CD workflow. I highly recommend vim-go for Vim users. The flat namespaci

The point is to illegally skirt regulations and obfuscate transactions. Many crypto believers are quite forthright about their anarchist bent. Even a cursory attempt at second-order thinking might be enough to disabuse a reasonably intellig

It’s getting downvotes because crypto enthusiasts have strawman’ed their way out of the argument. The tulip bubble was above all a cautionary tale about the behavioral dynamics of speculative assets.

It's shockingly ignorant and quite offensive to assert that fundamental tenets of morality and ethics originated in or necessarily had to be promulgated by religious doctrine.

I believe what the politicians really wanted to ask was: “how do we account for the tendency for human operators to make mistakes?” If you stop to think about it, what seems at first like a dumb question in fact presages difficulties that w

Expecting a generalist software engineer to know data mining and machine learning (well) is about equivalent to expecting your primary doctor to be able to do cardiology and heart surgery.

Why do you think it’ll make it as far as governments banning it? I suppose it depends on whether it’s a reaction to laundering or tax losses, with the former meriting attention a lot sooner than the latter.
