So you believe every Amazon customer should get in the promotion of X amount of free service for a whole year without any retention mechanism? In comparison if you ask your internet provider to bump you up from 1mbps to 2mbps (or to lower t

Excuse me, but what exactly are you disagreeing with? I said three things: 1) This move by Amazon is good because it will probably force Rackspace, Linode, et cetera to reevaluate their plans and make better offerings. This doesn't only aff

"Did I mention anything about either of those?" Yes you did ( "the only thing I consistently read about ruby & python web apps are deployment issues" ). That was the reason I used them as my examples. On your second point, I never ass

Deployment issues? Are we back in 2008? Don't tell me that Ruby doesn't scale or that developing in Python on a Mac is impossible because of the default version that ships with OSX.

In this day and age the only real reasons to use php is because you're either stuck with it and changing the code base makes no sense since you already have a product built, because you're new and don't know any better, or because you've be

I just have one comment about your CMS. It looks very promising, but $999 is way too steep a price. You're really offering a free trial with a $999 setup cost? That is just plain wrong on so many levels.

No I didn't. When I originally said what I said, I wasn't really comparing PHP against Rails or Django, I was merely stating that there are better ways to get up to speed faster. I then proceeded to give my opinion on the frameworks I've tr

The person I was responding to talked about PHP being the best at getting set up quickly. I wasn't comparing PHP to Rails or Django, I was measly saying that for getting up to speed fast, I found PHP not as fast to get up to speed quickly.

I agree with the sentiment that a UX/UI engineering need is going to be a necessary requirement not easily fulfilled in the near future. The good ones are fluent in back-end keyboard mashing, front-end spit shining, and everything in betwee

You can say the same of any programming language. Why should I try to use features I don't really need to use? To put things in perspective, it's equally easy to make a convoluted API that sucks in PHP than in any language or framework. PHP

This is a great move that will hopefully have the side effect of VPS services reevauting their current plans. Slicehost/Rackspace for starters should have done so a long time ago. Linode is a slightly better option, but they are still going

Actually I think they have more an effect on how you express yourself. If closures are the solution to my problem I'll probably think about it in language agnostic way first, and then express it in code in whatever language I prefer or need

Actually the author kind of made the distinction that he believes your first language should be so an so, so it becomes the 'base thinking platform' (so to speak) in which a programmer develops code in his mind. I agree with you though, you

There's no better brand in this case. Amazon and Apple are both juggernauts in their respective fields and both look as good as the other in paper. You should be thinking of three things: 1) Which one pays more and by how much? 2) Which one
