Great feature. So you alter the password field (extending the length) if needed and when a user signs in it gets auto-updated and Django always tests both/all specified algorithms? Or do you have to add a new database field when moving on?

To be 'fair': when Last.fm first launched, md5 was probably 'state of the art'. I mean take a step back, they have been around for like forever. The question is: How would you go on about moving your user database from md5 to a more advance

Looks good! Maybe put a placeholder text on the first page and I think there could also be another short one-liner describing the site's purpose. And maybe it's just me but in order to compare prices, remaining time on an auction and such,

It seems like they are quick and post a lot of updates on this status page each time when something's wrong. (I am not using Heroku but had the 'joy' of trying to run a site on Dreamhost for a while, so I have seen the worst.)

There is a newer project named Select2 now which handles remote data sets and offers infinite scrolling: http://ivaynberg.github.com/select2/ (Tried to submit it as a story the other day but zero upvotes.)

Meebo was useful, back then. Sometimes. But right now I am tempted to just respond with 'A/S/L?'.

Perfect project to get some attention/traffic to their actual product. Not hating at all, just saying that it's a good move. Made me check out their project because I wanted to know what else these guys are up to.

I guess it is mainly the fact that it's not using CamelCase for directories, all lower-case filenames, underscores in methods and class names (_Task). I am re-building a project in Laravel right now that I started with Slim, using a couple

Laravel looks nice but I agree the internal/default naming conventions and structures are a bit odd for 2012. Hopefully this will be changed in an upcoming version.

I am currently working on a project that involves some scraping as well. The most annoying things I came across so far are: - Totally broken markup (I fixed this by either using Tidy first or just using a Regex instead of a 'smart' HTML/XML

I like it, hadn't heard of Earbits before. Just wondering, are the artist bios entered/managed manually or pulled from some API or external resource?

I agree. Really makes me wonder if all their themes have been made by developers (like me). 'Work of a 5 year old', exactly.

I am pretty sure you were commenting on the 'ethical' aspect but just to emphasize this: regarding the skills involved, cracking today's 'PC games' copy protections is a lot harder than ripping or encoding will ever be. The protections are

Where are the private messages though? Did Facebook hold them back? Should be the most interesting (and well, most private) bits. (Sorry, I am in a bit of a hurry right now and only had a quick look at the article and the provided document.

I like that they added 'chosen'. Wish there was some kind of official Bootstrap 'add-on' or recipes repository.

I agree with the original ticket poster but if someone creates a patch adding an option as suggested, this should be good enough?

Will definitely check this out, although I just started a project using Slim. Slightly off-topic but besides Doctrine, RedBean and PHP ActiveRecord, is there any good and well-tested 'ORM' or some DataMapper/ActiveRecord implementation for

Tumblr is definitely very successful but Posterous had a lot more 'serious' content. From my perspective, Tumblr is mainly for 'cool kids' showing off and a lot of it is only 'reblogging'. Posterous had actual 'blogs' and 'articles'. Sure t

Where did you find the 2010 revision? The one from the parent link says VERSION 1.0 - 11/09/2009 (PDF creation date is October 24th, 2009) and http://www.securenetwork.it/ricerca/whitepaper/ links to the same.

Getting people to visit your site/using your service regularly would be best case, of course. But compare that to all the blogs in your feed reader, do you visit (all of) them unless there is a new post up? Probably not. In a similar way, a

I'd say currently 'we' have lost quite a big part of it, unfortunately. And while I would never wave the white flag, I think we can agree that a lot of people, businesses and 'hobby projects' are kind of 'screwed' when Facebook makes their

Agree with everything you said. But besides that, Facebook is so huge right now that you are basically forced to 'represent' on there as well. Someone in the comments on the first Ars Technica article wrote that Facebook took down the page
