There are quite a few 'public' places where you can hear 'real sceners' speak these days. Also NFO files (which often contain a lot of 'talk' as well) and scene magazines (such as commented charts) have always been there.

Sigh. To avoid further downvoting, I may add that the 'blank css' approach makes more sense than the 'go away' one. But I was thinking of things like the different browser (HTML5) Audio APIs 'we' are facing right now and my point was that y

Completely getting your point that it could be annoying for some people out there. It never bothered me though and while this is not really a strong argument, it's always one of the first things to come up when people talk about PHP's flaws

I keep hearing about PHP's "function parameter order inconsistencies". Has that ever been a real problem for anyone? Guess not. Auto-completion got your back and it's debatable if these are real 'inconsistencies' anyway. The amount of rea

I think it's great to have more active frameworks for PHP that keep questioning how 'stuff was done' with the previous ones. The only thing that I keep wishing for is that the whole 'new school' PHP 5.3+ gets something similar to Ruby's gem

Second this. I am currently so fed up with catering to all sorts of browsers and their incompatibilities and shortcomings that I think a 'stop caring' approach along with 'go somewhere else then' is becoming the only way to preserve my own

Seriously just curious, what are 'all new frameworks that support PHP5.3+' that are complying to that? And even with namespaces, I guess there are still a couple of ways on how to do this in the file system and handle autoloading. What's th

Don't take this as any legit comparison, but from my perspective: Fuel is at 1.0 RC1 as of right now, although it has only been started a few months ago. Lithium has been in development for ages (since 2009) and it seems like it hasn't seen

I actually started using it today, maybe two hours before it got posted on Scobleizer and while I didn't experience any super-fancy code assist features, it is fast, responsive and does not get in the way. Fell in love right away and I am b

Finding ways to blow up things and especially your own code is an important skill for every developer and designer. If I learned one thing in my first serious programming job (where we couldn't just do a quick deploy on a central server), i

Haven't worked with the PHP namespaces a lot myself yet but there seem to be more convenient ways: http://www.rooftopsolutions.nl/blog/taking-advantage-of-php-... And a good read on PHP namespaces in general: http://weierophinney.net/mat

Guess you could say the same about Ruby's WEBrick and it's still nice to have, even if it's just to get absolute beginners up and running in no time.

I guess no one really needs this bad but if someone's up to build it, why not? If it's kept as simple as the RFC suggests, it should be stable real soon and there are definitely scenarios where I'd choose this over launching Apache or ev

The comments on here and the screenshots made me install it, although I don't have any interest in R. Slick indeed and fast as well, kind of screams for a dedicated project/repo for the UI components, as a starting point for other IDEs.

Haven't read all the comments but this really seems like a 'special case' being an exception and does definitely not apply to the experience and quality you'll usually get on Joyent. I have been with them for a couple of years and the onl

(One hour and no comments yet. Intimidating.) This seems like a great idea with benefits for both sides. I haven't messed with too many APIs yet but are they the first to use POST requests this way? I'll definitely try and hack something la

When I said PEAR I referred to the pear.php.net packages being PHP4 style and dependent on PEAR_Error and all. I am aware of the fact that Symfony and a couple of other large projects are available via PEAR distribution servers. Haven't see

The most promising point in this article is that they're mentioning that the newer PHP frameworks are trying to work out how to make components reusable. Most of the good (and 'modern') PHP code is 'jailed' in frameworks right now or quite

I don't know a whole lot about text analysis and the mentioned algorithms, can this be used to analyze articles and determine which are dealing with the same subject? Techmeme-ish? Or what would be a good starting point for this? (Or would
