There's still quite a lot of people doing Angular 1.x though, so at least the train isn't that fast. I sorta agree with you. I personally like JS and really like Node. Node can actually be pretty simple and fun to mess around with

My theory is that since HL2 was "revolutionary" because of its physics engine (and HL1 before was "revolutionary" because of the story telling and no cutscenes), it makes sense that HL3 should combine the series excellen

Doom and Half Life (and other such FPSs of its time like System Shock 2) seem to me like two entirely different genres. I think Carmack was wrong but you can still have fun with a simple shooter + puzzle game like Doom.

Ember has a pretty large community—the framework has a few conferences every year that are filled up. Most Ember devs don't seem to participate in a lot of JS community things and are very quiet compared to say, the React community.

What did you use to learn Ember? I'm also in the "convention over config" camp and I love that the Ember team sticks to it but also introduces new tech like FastBoot whenever they can.

That's strange. Both React and Ember projects compile ES6 -> ES5 in very little time on my machine.

Disagree. It's not a website, but a portfolio. Agencies and designers have to show off what they can do and a static site with screenshots won't cut it. I'm personally very impressed.

How does one learn to make sites like these (particularly the "see work" link)?

I'm in a weird position where I like JavaScript and Node but dislike frontend (or at least I am disliking it more and more). With Node, I can get quite far with just a couple of dependencies that install quickly. I don't need tran

The problem with frontend is that making code synchronous blocks the client—even if it's something that "should be" synchronous. If it's anything more complex than a loop or a map through an array, it's recommended

Depends on the person. I don't work in my 20-30 min train commute. I just sit there and try to relax or listen to something.

This was what I was going to say! I read at all times, so I don't associate it with sleeping.

I think my strategy backfires if the book is really good. Personally my night reading is very casual, usually a light non fiction book that doesn't provoke much deep thought. For me it's mostly about slowing down.

Hence the "or". If you can't walk, just lay down in peace for a bit or read a book.

Doing some casual reading before sleeping has really helped.

Arrested Development especially rewarded loyal, in-order viewing and hurt "random" (seeing any episode out of order while switching channels) because the show focused a lot on jokes or plot devices made episodes before.

I've never heard of it either, but it's well known that Mozart both played a ton in his youth and actually worked hard when composing. Most people seem to think he was just sitting there and symphonies came to his head at random.

Hulu has (had? Don't remember) a ton of CC films such that a film's Hulu availability is featured in the actual CC website.

Midtown is a strange combination of seedy, dirty, weird, sketchy, and "cleaned up" tourist destinations. It's busy, full of massage parlors and bad souvenir stores, safe, and full of families on vacation. Probably my least fa
