Two things can be true. Fallout 3 is poorly optimized for sure. The steam deck’s CPU performance also sucks. I’ve had this issue with plenty of games.

For those who don’t know, plagman is a Valve employee and the creator (?) of gamescope. Cool to see you here. Gamescope is awesome.

I’ve found that forcing games to run at above native resolutions can help quite a bit. The aliasing that happens at the native res can be pretty bad even with high AA settings depending on the implementation. Also, the deck tends to have GP

Wow I’m glad somebody is finally quantifying why the steam deck has terrible CPU performance. I thought it might be the tiny cache. Many older games struggle to hit a consistent 60 FPS due to CPU limitations. With some testing you can usual

Yeah, it's a shame because multiplayer was an afterthought for the current major engines that you listed. Off the shelf multiplayer can work really well if the engine was designed for multiplayer. The Source engine always comes to mind

That's even worse than my experience https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=34523227 I'm pretty skeptical of these hiring challenges at this point. It seems that they often require more time than the traditional mod

The thing that irks me about incremental releases is that they charge full price for every new release AND include micro-transactions. So we end up in this situation where to be consumer friendly they should either adopt a rolling release F

I think there's a huge opportunity for indie developers to clone popular games and make them more consumer friendly. It seems like a lot of huge corporations will blindly chase profits with zero consideration of what their fans want. I

Even that requires significant effort that companies are not willing to invest. They'd have to scrub the server of proprietary code, like integration with an account server, and update the client to work with the new system.

The quality of developers in game dev has not declined. Studios grew and merged into massive companies that follow the established pattern of profits over people.

This argument is so tired. It’s not okay for every tech company to lay off 10% of their workforce. It does not matter that their headcount is still higher than it was a couple of years ago. This argument also completely ignores the fact tha
