I'm part of that younger crowd, and it's probably because they associate it with a) their first CS class b) 90s Java applets on the web while growing up and c) Oracle. I love Java, and I've learned to let go of (a) and (b).

I confess: I used to get Vinyl rips of old albums for this reason on what.cd It wasn't that Vinyl is better, but the MIXES were better. They didn't compress the crap out of everything.

I thought it was mostly painless. Vast majority of applications provided an Intel binary right away without many issues. Rosetta wasn't too terrible for simple tasks for the rest of them.
