FYI the message you are responding to is a reference to this ancient copypasta: ``` The venerable master Qc Na was walking with his student, Anton. Hoping to prompt the master into a discussion, Anton said "Master, I have heard that ob

It adds a module system to nix flakes. I've been using nix every day for 4 years and make heavy use of flakes but TBH i'm not really sure the benefit flake-parts. It looks like a ton of new boilerplate.

Okay so we can generalize to music theory outside of the western canon but then aren't we also allowing in "the theory of the music made by not learning western theory but rather by listening to lou reed riffs and copying his hand

Sorry, by parent poster i meant Voldecar who was responding to you. I don't necessarily agree with you on the 'that it never was' comment but I wasn't objecting to that opinion.

Amazing straw man. I said nothing of curation, mastery, or art history in general. My comment was challenging the parent poster's assumed knowledge of the opinions of old masters.

There is sooooo much more contemporary art then that one guy who stapled a banana to a wall. If that is all your exposure to contemporary art then you aren't trying very hard.

There are many musical traditions which evolved completely orthogonal to [western] music theory. That such traditions can exist and have performers who express virtuosity contradicts the claim that all 'riffs' originate with [west

Thats fair. I'm not GP but I do tend to agree that the AST used in that paper is overly complicated. Here is an STLC with bidir example which I believe to be easier to understand: https://github.com/solomon-b/lambd

I think you are still making an unfair generalization from this post. What you are saying is like reading a machine learning paper which has python examples and complaining that software development with python demands understanding advance

The typechecker and evaluator for this AST would be super simple. If you want a simple typechecker then you need type annotations. If you want to have type inference then you either need to implement unification or go the bidir route (which

LangChain is a perfect example of unnecessary abstraction. You could build a much simpler and more composable library for working with LLMs simply using functions and function composition. This isn't rocket science.

I don't think your conclusion is especially fair. This is a blog post about programming language design and type theory not general usage of functional programming. It also doesn't mention any category theory...

The Author is _not_ implementing dependent types. They specifically are implementing Simply Typed Lambda Calculus. They have stripped out the Pi and Sigma types from the original paper.

This article is odd. The author seems to imply they are introducing NBE in their second redesign, but the original paper performs NBE as well.

From what I understand, Ozempic works by slowing down digestion and thus reducing appetite. If that is the case then wouldn't this be precisely evidence that caloric restriction is all you need to reduce obesity?
