CORRECTION: I am mistaken. See https://docs.python.org/3/library/ctypes.html Python is a pretty poor glue language, in my experience. Calling C APIs from Python is not pleasant. This is how one might import the l

Love JuliaLang. But it definitely comes across as a language defined by its implementation. It is poorly specified relative to most popular languages. Appreciate the work by the paper's authors, though.

Competition. In a competitive and rational market, the cheapest good (of comparable quality/availability) will get 100% of the sales.

Python is ~100x slower than C. There is definitely wiggle room for improvement.

I've used both, and I prefer TeXmacs. Despite what the name might apply, TeXmacs is not built on top of TeX. This is a good thing. It's much less bloated (60 MB vs several GB), and compilations seem much faster. Highly extensible&

tl;dr: When an "eval" redefines a top-level function, it does so AFTER the function returns. This makes it easier for the compiler to optimize appropriately. This is called "world age", where the compiler ensures that th

JS on server-side can be taxing. If I don't use NodeJS, then I'd have to (1) call it from a script, eating the startup time (2) run a daemon of NodeJS workers running in parallel to my web server or (3) use an "embedded"

You should look into GNU TeXMacs [^0]. Its formulas (and document structure) are composed of S-Expressions that the user can edit directly. But it has a "TeX"-like UI (typing '\int' renders an integral symbol). Producing

Incredible. Given a (one-to-one) Julia function `f`, this package generates `~f`, the inverse of f. Clever use of automatic differentiation. Paper: https://arxiv.org/abs/2003.04617

KaTeX is great, but I long for a system that: 1. Can be rendered server-side without a heavy runtime (ideally written in C/C++/Rust/Whatever instead of JS). 2. Has a well defined output AST, so that the output can be manipula

Why regulate size and not behaviour? The problem isn't that a company is too big, but that it engages in behaviour that makes it hard for competitors to thrive. And, yes, they may use size a leverage for this. But breaking up the compa
