When you first open hacker news, where are your eyes? Are they in the upper right, checking your comment score?

It's paramount to keep #1 firmly in place. The fundamentals don't change but the implementations do constantly. If you focus only on the implementations you can very well end up a programmer with 20 years of 1 year experience.

The near-permanent lockdowns needed to be offset by government payment programs like they were in every other developed country except the US. If they shut everything down but don't offset it somehow, what do they expect the result to

It would be interesting to sort the highest rated comments and group them based on if they originated from old reddit or new. I suspect all of the high quality content comes from old.reddit.com.

If you are doing any native Windows development and also need to interact with a lot of COM objects and apis it's really hard to beat Delphi. It's so much nicer than dealing with C++ and WTL.

I had a classmate in grade school that was deaf in one ear. He said he was cleaning his ear with a q-tip when his sister walked up behind him with a paper bag and popped it as a joke.

Performance is a feature and that null check has a cost. The code is correct. The null check is unnecessary. The bug is passing null in.

You've asked a top-down question. Have you considered a bottom-up approach? What's the citizen's point of view? From their point of view, maybe the best organization has a little chaos thrown in. You can break it down into

Making software development more accessible leads to more software. It doesn't necessarily lead to better software. I think this is the collective groan you hear. Anybody can take garageband and slap some autotuned vocals on a track

Whenever posts like this come up, the amount of controversy they always generate I take as proof of git's difficulty. If git were easy, it wouldn't need to be constantly defended by supporters.

80% of all credit credit card fraud in the US happens at bars and restaurants, and it's because of that ritual. It's why I always pay with cash at restaurants and bars.

There is no question there was Russian interference in the 2016 election with reams of evidence to back it up. It was then spun that Trump specifically did not conspire. Conspiring does not matter. It is entirely irrelevant to the goal of

There is a little window on the cartridges the printer shines a light through to detect the toner. When it can see the light you get out-of-toner errors. If you mark over it with a sharpie, it will print again. I'll be the judge of w
