I've read about most of these while diving down the rabbit hole on wiki on particle accelerators. It's all fascinating stuff and nice to see in one article. I never thought of it that way while reading, but yeah, I guess they ar

Learn C. You will always need to know it. The K&R book is not a very big book. That said, the elephant in the room is the toolchain. With Rust you use cargo. With C you use ... a hodgepodge of technologies glued together with duct t

Some of my most vivid childhood memories are dreams I had. When recalling the events in my life, it's not always easy to recall which were dreams and which really happened. It's terrifying. It's all too much information. I

Yep, I bought a Grbl board. Still, the accepted amount of piracy around Mach3 is surprising. There's a whole cottage industry based around pirating that software. Nice build btw.

Last night I was looking up CNC controller boards for sale online. Many of them come with Mach3 software, with instructions to copy a special 'L1c3nse.dat' file to your C:\Mach3 folder. Seems legit.

I setup something like this for a friend, except it was a rig for doing stacked focus photography. The rig is basically a stepper motor, driver, arduino, and IR LED. Most cameras have remote controls and you can program the arduino to send

There is really no reason at all that any government database should be a commercial database. I'm looking squarely at you, Oracle.

If you turned the system on without a game in and you held up, 1 and 2 all simultaneously, there was a secret game built in to the system. When my friend got his SMS he did that on accident the first time he turned it on, leading to much c

Samsung really needs to just flush their entire software division. It's all garbage. Their android software is a frustrating joke. Tizen is a hot mess. Every issue I've ever had with a samsung product was with their software,

I have an LG. I never connected it to the internet, but it still has a built-in, always-on, no-way-to-disable wireless access point that pollutes the wireless channel it broadcasts on.

Wayland was released 12 years ago. Should we keep waiting? The Linux desktop already lost. You can attribute it to a lot of things, but it's nothing to do with WSL.

I should probably switch back to Debian. I switched to Ubuntu back in the day because it was Debian + more stuff. Now it's Debian + more stuff I don't want.

This is a really great example that I wish more engineers understood. There are an enormous amount of external factors that play into why that software project must have features a, b, and c and must be done by next friday. Good code cost

It took me two days of fighting with esp8266_rtos_sdk and hacking together their broken github repo before I finally got anything to work. esp-idf worked on the first try.

I use both. If I want to look at a single file I'll use vim. If I want to look at a group of files in a folder I'll use vscode. They are both text editors that support plugins to the point of becoming an ide, but it is far easie

Yeah, I'm regretting getting the esp8266 not knowing of the esp32. Besides being a better device for basically the same price, it has better tooling from espressif.

My wife has been hoarding them for the last 10 years. I agree with reuse, but at the rate we use them vs the rate we consume them we have enough for the next 200 years. I think it's more efficient all around to pay for them.

> Less than 66 keys is like playing a 2-string guitar. I've found I need an odd number of octaves. Even number of octaves is kind of useless. The songs I can play on a 3 or 4 octave device are the same, but 5 octaves opens up more.
