If all the waste heat was using for heating, then you might have a point. If you have to start burning extra electricity (fans, cooling systems) to keep your GPU or ASIC cool, your argument falls apart. I also don't think people are us

Exactly. The Wright Brothers weren't thinking about going to Mars, they wanted to make a "bird" that people could ride like a horse. New inventions spur more new inventions and new ideas. Sometimes it is just an old problem s

Well, some places are making education illegal so that is problematic too. I think the way you get rid of racism is always just via exposure. It is easy to hate group X when you don't know any X or are never in contact with them. Peopl

I've always found this fight for search choice on iOS to be bad for Apple. If they had to give a choice for search engine on setup or make it easy to switch the default, 99.99% of people would still choose Google and Apple would lose

I think it is trust in the trust and verify sense. Meaning, we trust each other to do our best but let us verify that we are all on the same page and aren't breaking things or doing something harmful.

Well said. Afaik, people aren't getting compensated by LOC * $X. Sometimes the value to the team/product/company is higher by going to pointless meetings than it is by being a code monkey in your basement. No process is per

One thing I learned in my many years in this life: you can't fix inequity by inching slowly in the "right" direction. However, the "right" stopping point is too often controlled by the same oppressors. You have to b

How do you define efficient? There are lots of ways to slice the data. Large farms need economies of scale to pay for $1M tractors. I don't see anyone paying for something that expensive and raising a family on 40 acres.

Well said. Also, you get to decide everything. There are no meetings or planning sessions. You can change your mind halfway through and no one else cares. Control can be quite satisfying.

We should just drop to 50 years. Most people have a working career of 50 years. Having 50 years to earn off your creation seems fair to everyone.
