I was at a newspaper in 1992 and we all used Tandy TRS-80 computers writing to huge floppy discs. Our finished copy would find its way to Compugraphic Unisetter machines for output. Inside of a year I was at a place using Aldus Pagemaker on

I used one of these in the mid-90s during a newspaper career. I'd go to the police station and transcribe stuff, then go back and re-type it line-by-line onto a Mac Quadra. I'm sure there was a way to plug it in and not re-type, b

I can buy a nice flip house in Kansas City for under $80K, and it's already connected to electrical and city utilities. No site prep. I can go even cheaper if I could live in 650 square feet, but I guess that's addressed by tiny h

I can't think of any other product I can buy today that is set up this way. Yet somehow we accept buying a phone from a carrier and having it difficult or impossible to use elsewhere.

Chess is just automatic now. Every move is known by nearly everyone who's ever played, to the point where it's basically the coin flip in NFL overtime.
