It isn't about copyright laws. These megacorps send the MAINTAINERS THEMSELVES C&Ds based on their TOS - why? Because OSS devs do not have the means to pay for a potentially unlimited defense.

The tech industry failed the invidious team and other projects like this. This should be 100% legal and allowed based on a right-to-mod precedent but not lawyer is willing to take it that far because this is open source. This project gives

This license was created to take the best parts from the Hippocratic and Do No Harm Licenses. In version 1.1 some prohibitions were added. Mainly settler colonialism and apartheid. Feel free to add it to your projects. https://fi

Absolutism includes the right to repair (our software) which extends to the right to reverse engineer. Unfortunately those are both untenable at the moment as there is no legal mechanism to support or fight for those rights To create such a

The big argument against piracy is that it doesn't allow people to get paid for their work, however, with these recent Hollywood strikes and how people are getting paid $0.08 residuals I don't see how piracy makes anyone any worse

I'm aware of DMAs regs but it forces Whatsapp within 6 months to start enabling interoperability. However it doesn't provide protection for these existing bridge projects. open-wa, Baileys, invidious devs are all in the dark as to

Matrix is great but when is the tech industry going to deal with the fact that many, if not all, bridges are against the respective services' ToS and subsequently put the developers of those bridges under legal risk? Whatsapp has alrea

Wouldn't it be more "efficient" networking if I could sometimes just use the mullvad app instead of tailscale > mullvad? Either way it would be good to at least have the option to use an existing account. Maybe tailscale i

The developers shouldn't have to be anon for this type of amazing project. They should be publicly celebrated instead of having to hide for fear of being buried in legal trouble. Sad state of the world.

This is why regulation is required to force companies to release feature-parity APIs and protect reverse engineering projects from legal threats.

Side point: When you rent a Tesla, please do not sign into youtube. Subsequent renters can see your whole Google account (including family members, phone numbers etc). Or at least sign out before you return the car!

This is the result of shamelessness seeping into business. That contrarian business thinking that does away with any pretense of putting anything other than money first. Also, this idea of charging for API access is lazy and unimaginative.
