The TechCrunk article that MacRumors get their info from says: "When it’s time for a user to check out, they request to pay with CurrentC. The consumer then unlocks their phone, opens the CurrentC app, opens the code scanner, and scans

For instance, they could use a proprietary NFC solution. Works just like Apple Pay, just instead of a credit card number, it's a CurrentC account number. Sure it doesn't too well on iPhones, but I bet they could pay Samsung, etc

The MCX org can always pivot to some other payment system, that is still not Apple Pay.

The tricky bit is that MCX is owned by the merchants. It's not like some third-party payment processor. So if you pay for a share of MCX, it's not going to be something you want to walk away from.

Usually it's a rope of explosives running up the barrel of the rocket. The goal is to quickly remove structural integrity, and the rocket takes care of blowing itself up immediately.

I feel like T-Mobile doesn't even know what Unlimited means. Here's their ad copy: "Unlimited Tablet or Hotspot data plans – choose the amount of 4G LTE data you want to add."

Some people don't realize that the real cheap rates are because you are giving up a subsidy, and that your next new phone will raise the rates again. OTOH I personally think that's a benefit since I can choose to get the subsidy

Interesting, VRBO definitely changed their pricing model recently. It used to only be the $350 upfront type, so it only made sense for actual vacation homes. I know a lot of people were dual listing their VRBO places on Airbnb (because Ai

The hotel business has the separate concepts of "operator" and "owner". The operator is the brand you know. The owner is some property ownership company that contracted a particular operator to build and run their prop

The more relevant question is, what business plan is going to let someone with a similar website attract customers? You have to find a weak point in Airbnb. Maybe focus on particular underserved cities. Maybe only allow amazing properties

We all consider AirBnb old hat, but I'm constantly running into people who have never heard of it when we mention we used it on a recent vacation. Even an Uber driver we used on that trip, in Seattle, had never heard of AirBnb. That s

Remember when you are looking at hotel chain valuations that they generally don't own the hotels, but just franchise the brand. There are other large companies involved that own the hotels.

Everyone who spends money beyond the ascetic-level can be judged by others. Many of us buy new $650 phones every two years, which I'm sure seems incredibly wasteful to people in third-world poverty.
