That is what happened with Enron. Company went under, peoples 401K were in the company stock, company matching was in the company stock. After that I noticed companies would either not let you put your donation to the 401K be in company s

The lack of network support and thus no backdoor is one of the reasons I love SQLite.

My preference is to have a main project, and 2 or 3 side projects with relaxed schedules. When I get tired on the main I shift. Usually the main is no fun, but the side ones are, so it takes a bit to shift back during the day. I usually

Stop drinking coffee after 12 noon. When I feel hungry after dinner, drink water. Late hunger is often the brains cry for food to keep you awake. Usually within 30 minutes I am sleepy. Going to bed early, so I do not have to use the alarm

Have you considered posting a link to your resume in this question so people can look at it, and provide suggested improvements? Assuming it does not violate the HN rules of course.

Sadly one of the best methods is to go to a headhunter. Last time I seriously looked, I had the similar problem. If I had one interview per 50 resumes I would be surprised. That said I had one occasion where the HR person from a company c

I agree with you. Not that I have looked recently, what I see missing is a 'northwid' or 'contoso' database. As well as some MOOC with a gentle ramping up of skills. If you know of a good MOOC on RDF I would love to kno

I am in a similar situation. I am doing everything but coding. Like you I loved SW development. Unlike you, PM would be a happier place than where I am now. That said, I am planning, when I can (Sept 2022), to go back to SW development.

I was in a similar situation. But in my situation, the acquiring company was very clear, they only wanted to take our customers. They did not care about our tech or our people. Some people moved to their company, maybe like 5%. The rest

When I learned Ruby I found it to be a lot of fun. I was using C++ and C# before that. I did not enjoy Rails so much as the tech was changing too quickly and IMHO the documentation was not keeping up.

Was it just title, or did you not get the money originally offered? Is your role not the same as they said in the interview? Deep down I would have a trust issue with the company. Although often titles are handed out as fake promotions an

I assume the easiest method is to obtain a EU passport. So the followup is how to get an EU passport? If I recall correctly (read it a few years ago), some EU countries, you could buy your way into a passport. Not sure if it is still true.

As always, make sure your resume is up to date. Maybe shop it a bit to see if you are over or under paid. Depending on your industry, it might be there are a lot of people in that industry who are out of work. When the IT market is soft, a

In all likelihood, the best use of your skills is to make money and then donate it. Find a good charity. Of course with charity you want a quality charity that spends on the intended target and not the management or ad agency. My 2 favor
