You may be interested in knowing that Android has exposed raw GNSS measurements through public APIs [0,1] so anybody can build their own raw processing engines using techniques like the ones described in the article [0] https://d

Google explores these techniques as well. They're critical to improving accuracy in urban areas where you don't have line of sight to satellites (this is why your GNSS (AKA GPS) location is terrible whenever you're in a city)

Very cool. What are you up to these days? My manager worked at Qualcomm back in the day and played a huge role in creating the first GNSS smartphone chipsets. Likewise, I've learned a lot from him and other veterans in my org.

It depends on the GNSS chipset in the phone, but usually it'll be all the GNSS satellites visible in the sky, from all major constellations. The current Android platform supports GPS, SBAS, GLONASS, QZSS, BEIDOU, GALILEO, and IRNSS[0].

We consider and integrate all kinds of solutions, accounting for building geometry is just one of them, and we do thorough validation to ensure it's actually helping. There's always various tradeoffs being made. Ideally, clients w

Yup! This issue, which is commonly described as the "wrong-side-of-the-street" or "wrong-city-block" error, is one of the biggest ones, and is where a lot of the innovation I mentioned is happening today. This occurs bec

Amazing work. I work on the Android location team at Google, and I sent this article out to my team. GPS/GNSS is critical for accurate location/context, and there's still plenty of innovations happening in this field. One of

My friend got scammed in a similar way via CashApp. He sold something a few weeks ago and received payment via CashApp. Two days ago he's informed that the customer disputed the charge through his bank, and CashApp is taking the money

What you seem to be describing is the maximum theoretical efficiency. It's a common thing in lots of fields, and it's valuable because it gives you a goal you can aim for, and know that you have reached the theoretical limit of pe

It really hurts your credibility when you mix up distinct Soviet eras. The Gulag system began to be dismantled immediately upon Stalin's death and was fully dismantled by 1960.

Regarding poor energy efficiency specifically: it has been observed than gains in efficiency of energy consumption actually cause further increases in energy consumption, rather than decreases, which is counterintuitive: https://
