How many years of experience did you have using Windows before then? You had a lot of domain knowledge already whether you realize it or not. "The first time I used Emacs I found all kinds of Lisp functions I already knew. It has a familiar

Oh, must be a recent change. I don't like that they removed the text on the arrow keys as well. They used to say page up/down and home/end since fn-left is home, fn-right end, fn-up page up and fn-down page down. That's not obvious to switc

I agree. Calling the command key apple is falling out of use though. Most people these days call it command or use the cloverleaf symbol, and it says command and has the cloverleaf symbol on it. People have started calling option alt and I'

That's a common line from the telcos but in reality very little of Canada is actually populated and a huge percentage of our people live within 100-200k of the US border. The most difficult area to cover is BC because of all the trees &

I was talking to my sister and her husband the other day. They recently moved to Singapore and have 12gb/month data plans. I don't know what they pay but as they're both casual users I assume they didn't get anything outrageous. Made me ver

People use NoScript to prevent crappy sites from doing annoying, stupid, or malicious things. I'm pretty sure most NoScript users whitelist sites that they visit that are legit and require JavaScript. That's how I use it anyway.

After browsing through the spec a little I can't take axod's claims seriously. He's way off the mark saying that endianness of values sent over the network doesn't matter. The fact that they are random bytes is irrelevant, they have meaning

I completely understand your frustration with the over-specification. Why would they send it over the wire if it was never meant to be used though? Surely the other side is interpreting these bytes somehow and excepts them in a certain orde

When it goes over the network it has to be big-endian so both sides agree on the value. That's why we call it "network order". If the value is random and you send the low byte first and then treat that as the high byte it would work. I can'

I've had dropbox lose files inside bundles. We were abusing dropbox with hundreds of thousands of small files, so I'd be very careful about putting your entire $HOME folder in there since it's a pretty similar scenario. My personal rule is
