Nice job on mixtest, I saw it here on HN the other day. It's pretty cool! I couldn't load it on my iPad or iPhone though. Loads on my notebook right away. I'll bookmark it and try it later.

Yes and no. I don't really blame them for disallowing system extensions (Backgrounder, SBSettings, fake carrier, call recorder, etc). They can be useful, and they can also be privacy and security nightmares. I tolerate having to jailbreak b

Maybe they just added it but they do include a link to the github repo at the bottom under "source".

Every game he loaded up required a keyboard. Oops. Oh and there were Flash ads on Newgrounds. Yay? TED talks, Slideshare, and blip.tv would have made far more compelling demos. Lots of good content trapped in Flash on those sites. Until the

If you have a bit of time it's not that hard to convert a simple ePub file to a single Kindle-friendly HTML file, since ePub is already HTML. Use your favourite HTML library in your favourite scripting language to pull out the contents of t

Fair enough, I'm glad to see them improve. I don't hate MS or anything of the sort I've just traditionally had bad experiences with their products. I used Vista SP1 for 8-9 months in 2008. It never crashed (when I wasn't OCing) and was grea

I think it's more that the registry and filesystem get bloated and crufty. You can defrag an older installation and it'll still be slow. It happens on new systems too. I've done it dozens of times, install Windows and be happy about the fre

I try to be fair, I really do. Of course I'm biased - I grew up using Windows and can't help being bitter about it - but I try to keep things in perspective. Push Button Reset is great for geeks using Windows, but it's a bandage not the cur

Installers on OS X have a manifest of files they install. I'd be surprised if MSI didn't do the same, but I guess not everyone uses MSI. On OS X most apps still leave prefs or other files around too so it's not perfect, but it's something.

What's funny is that further down the page they present Push Button Reset, for when your Windows installation deteriorates to the point of being unusably slow. Instead of fixing their OS they decide to burden the user with re-installing the

When the standards are widely implemented those who are already familiar with them will have a head start. Unless some people push things forward they will forever stay the same. We don't all have to move in lock-step, that kind of thinking

It was increased to 20MB near the end of 2009. Devs can get around this by downloading extra bits on first startup or heavily compressing big datasets and decompressing them on first startup. Only a handful do, but there are ways around it.

It sucks for app devs but it's good for the customer. Until the platform has matured halting progress is a bad idea. Otherwise you're stuck supporting legacy crap forever and cannot move forward fast enough, especially in the mobile space.
